Usually when I think of 'North Carolina' and 'powder' together, it involves Widespread Panic.
Way to get after it.Forum Cross Pollinator, gratuitously strident

ah. i've been through the roan highlands and always thought it'd be one of the most exotic locales to ski compared to anywhere else on earth.
pretty cool that much of the roan ridge is higher than mt washington and you go through many climatic zones on the way up from creek to summit.
goddam gorgeous and no one talks about it.

It's a fun and pretty wild place to go to during the winter. Roan gets a lot of snow, but the winds are usually so bad that the balds don't hold much snow. Typically skiing is done on the road, the Appalachian Trail or one of the x-country trails.

Good stuff!!! Bet you don't see many tracks. My parentals live near the blue ridge parkway outside of waynesville. Always wanted to winter tour off the ridge....

Awesome! Used to work at Nantahala Outdoor Center in 91. Been all around that area in warmer weather. Cool to see the BC angle.
