IRS time!
On Reddit earlier this week, one contributor, under the heading “I just discovered that I owe the IRS $50k that I don’t have, because I traded in cryptos. Am I fucked?”, wrote they had ended up with a $50,000 tax liability on trades after they sold $120,000 worth of bitcoin to buy different coins. The current value of those coins is about $30,000. “I feel like I might have accidentally ruined my life because I didn’t know about the taxes,” the poster wrote. One complication for crypto investors is that digital currencies that were, in part, devised to operate outside of government and banking industry oversight, are still of interest to the US tax authorities, who look at cryptocurrency as property and not currency.

The IRS is monitoring crypto trades? How?
I thought it was untraceable and anonymously held.

Isn't the main selling feature of some cryptos their open ledger systems? I hope they manage to collect taxes from everyone who has traded in it and owes.

I guarantee hodlers are going to claim their losses. It was never about secrecy.

“It’s a pretty big blow,” said Russ Dallen, the managing director at Caracas Capital. “Since most cryptocurrencies are not actually backed by anything real, cryptocurrency speculation is based on the greater fool theory — I can buy this at $100 because there is someone who is a bigger idiot who is going to buy it at $200. When you take the U.S. out of that equation, you reduce the interest and potential for that speculation.”

I suspect there will be some “sell” in the near future!

Seriously, whether you like bitcoin/crypto or not or it's a fad or whatever you would be foolish to not buy at least a little chunk now. Sell it in 6-12 months and quadruple your money...or wait 18-24 months and go 10x.
Hell, you think everyone who owns a business or sells a certain product LOVES it? Fuck no, but if you see an opportunity to make a stack you fucking take it.
It's like a a guy with a horse ranch in 1910 seeing everyone starting to buy these new fangled cars and not wanting a piece of the action. Horses still had value they always will, but fuck if you had a chance to get into cars at the onset you be damn stupid not to.

I'm no hater, just like pointing out how this likely will never be actual currency.
The new child porn revelations are rather interesting.

You're on! I really don't think that it'll take nearly that long, though.
Srsly, though - do you have any compelling articles about crypto? I've read/watched a bunch and I have to say... none of it really is convincing that I've seen yet.
It smells alot like snake oil poured over a pyramid scheme...

I think this article from one of BTC's great ambassadors is pretty captivating.
