SWIFT to integrate R3’s technology

SWIFT, a messaging network that financial institutions use primarily to facilitate international money transfers, will integrate R3 technology as first reported by CoinDesk. Speaking at the Paris Fintech Forum today, Gottfried Leibbrandt, CEO of SWIFT said that the details of the integration will be announced later today.

R3, the distributed ledger technology provider, announced the launch of Corda Settler in early December, an application that facilitates global cryptocurrency payments on enterprise blockchains. Corda Settler initially supports XRP.

See the current Bitcoin mining profitability. Even though the mining difficulty automatically adjusts to ensure 600 second block times, that adjustment doesn't make it actually any more or less profitable to mine.

In fact, according to the current price today (with said 'bull run'), it is still impossible to mine and make a profit unless the electricity costs less than 5.8 cents per kilowatt hour and the latest-and-greatest most efficient equipment is used.

Perhaps you can explain why the mining difficulty is related to Summit's comment that it costs more to mine than the coins are worth.

It's a free market mang. Anyone that doesn't want to "lose money" is free to turn off their asics whenever they want. Obviously quite a few people still think it's worth it.
