TR: The last few years (possible picture overload)

Since this is post 1000, i figured I’d better do a TR for it. Not too much of them around nowadays anyways and I too haven’t done in what seems to be long time…
I have several seasons’ worth of pictures and just picked the ones I liked the most. Some might have been in TRs by Klar or in the Snow for the Euros thread, but I don’t care. Hope you enjoy.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PART 1 – Before the Snow and cold

Wildspitze & Brochkogel seen from Pitztal glacier resort

There is this time of the year at the very beginning of the ski-season, usually from October to some point in late November, when there is just a bit of snow on the higher parts of the mountains.

    Obergurgl without snow

The days get shorter, but it isn’t winter yet.

    Olperer from Stubai

The glacier-ski resorts are open and getting more crowded every week, since what seems to be the entire skiing population of Austria, southern Germany, Hungary, the Netherlands and the Czech republic is very eager to ski the first runs of the season on very crowded, very hard groomers.

    Marmolada seen from Zuckerhütl

Since skiing the resorts is awful at that time, those of us who aren’t still climbing are trying to get away from the lifts and do some touring, usually in the same 3-4 places every year.

    Klar@Obergurgl

That might not be too bad, but it is rarely great.

    somewhere in Ötztal

So we wait and wait, until a storm is coming

    Weißkugel & Wildspitze from Stubai

and the morning after it clears, the world is white again.

    PART 2 – Storm Days

    Georg@Arlberg

Storms usually don’t last that long in the Alps, but sometimes we do get snow, even over here in Tyrol.

    Lots of it.

What are those for, i wonder?

    Tobi

In my opinion, skiing trees during a storm is one of the best things that you can do. It is quite, there aren’t much people and you can be quite certain that tomorrow will be good all over again.

But one morning, I look out of the window and see this:

And then, i know that it is time to ski some real mountains…

I basically stopped skiing resorts on nice days. There are too many people and I don’t like to ski where tracks are.

In another summer we spent 2 days on a boat,

    then a day on horses

    somewhere

    and another one walking

    Klar

    Klar

Just to end up in the middle of nowhere,

where rivers of ice reach the sea

and everything seems to be ruled by the storms.

After skiing there for a bit,

    Klar

we went back to El Chalten,

It is also quite impressive there. Landscape-wise.

And once we fly back, we can just start all over.

That has to be one of the most impressive collections of photos anyone can claim on TGR. Didnt even need any words to tell a real story. Hats off to that.

Amazing TR - I always look forward to TRs from you and Klar. I remember when you first posted up Klar in Ausserfern - that is my favorite photo of the bunch (there are so many excellent shots though).
