Putting AT boots on; in walk or ski mode???
i've always been under the impression that you should always, dependent of the boot, put AT boots on in ski mode. I thought I read this somewhere (but can't find anything that actually says otherwise). One of my BC partners, who was complaining about slop in his boots, thinks it doesn't matter what mode the boot is in and hence always puts his boots on in walk mode. I suggested that maybe his slop was coming from putting his boots on in walk mode, he got defensive about it, busted out his boot's manual and said he couldn't find anything that said it mattered which mode the boot was in when you put them on…..
so now i'm here asking the tgr collective: SHould you put AT boots on in ski mode? walk mode? or does it not matter…
thanks

A) yer friend sounds like a whiney douche
B) yer dumber than I thought you were for engaging him on this for even a second.
C) no, it doesn't matter which way you put a fucking boot on.
how bout we hear XXX-er's theory on the subject. he's sure to write a whole fucking insightful (not) novel on this very interesting subject.

The cuff opens up wider in walk mode.
That's how I put mine on.
But really, your friend's a douche.Leave No Turn Unstoned!

Not sure I have ever put on a boot intentionally while in ski mode.
Or why I would.
Always take them off in walk mode.

Wow. If your boot is so loose that it matters, go take up snowboarding.

Is he wearing AT socks or alpine socks? Those can make a big difference.

I have about 100 days on my BD Factor 130s. They are a bitch to take go on and off in the ski mode and easy in the walk mode. Why would you not always use the walk mode? The easier it is to slip your foot into the boot the less stress on the liner and you.
Besides the walk function, I think ease of putting them on and off is one of the big benefits of using an AT for daily alpine use. Now I can chuckle at all the guys dancing and cussing while trying to put their boots on in the parking lot. Your friend reminds me of old school thinking when if your boots didn't hurt and weren't a fight to get on, they didn't fit right.Gravity Junkie
