So...Steamboat's been good.
Over 30" officially in the past 4 days with quite a bit more on north aspects, 2014 has started with a bang here in Routt County on top of an all time early season. With some high pressure getting ready to move in we'll be skiing bluebird pow all week up here. Come get some!
Here's a little stoke from Saturday:

That wind affected snow sure made me feel right at home the last few days. It wasn't the champagne that they trademarked but much more like the kind of snow Tahoe used to get. I Can't wait to go back.

Thanks for the new M.O., that's how Steamboat PR rolls - Powder to the people!
The backside was actually blower yesterday, but yes, had to find the sheltered lower aspects on mountain for sure. Another 8" last night followed by a good wind event..."Why do I always get more kisses on powder days?" -my wife

I was there on Thursday when it started puking. Friday woulda been better, but it was still great. My buddy was there on Sunday and he said it was primo. Hike to terrain at morning side is good, but the slow run out an extra work left me sticking to storm peak and the. The sundown lift.

Probably skiied Steamboat a dozen times or so on my trips out West and it has yet to disappoint... We were there two years ago and when we got there the place was hurting for snow and we were pretty much relegated to the zoomers... Our second night of the trip it started puking and for the next 4 ski days we got 9 to 12" of blower POW everyday... The plus was when we were there it seemed like it was amature hour and everyone was from TX or Atlanta so the mountain was a ghost town (excluding locals) and we skiied fresh pretty much all day...
And I agree with cyborg, the hike to was easy and I loved all of the chutes, but gawd did I hate those run-outs... Enjoy and it looks like I will be making the trip back out there next year...

Rode there mon/tues. Absolutely redonkulous. Especially the hike to off of Werner. Just too bad it's so short. Still all time up there for sure. Might even head back up next week to hit some touring off of muddy pass.

Good stuff, I love that place! Best place to be for sneaky storms and big dumps. Love getting wasted at the slopeside grill too!

What's this snow stuff you're riding on? Also, your skis look fat.

Not too much great skiing up there... Really short and the sledneckers shred most pitches. There are a few choice hidden gems but definitely want a sled to get to those. Mt. Baker and North Walton peak are couple of the skin access exceptions, not sure how the snow is holding up there but generally is has stayed nice in other areas of Routt. Some sun effect but it has been staying pretty cold, extensive surface hoar forming.
