    That chair opened for an hour today. It was definitely not heavy by NW standards(maybe heavy on the Montucky scale?) in the morning. Unfortunately the power went out at 10:30 so we had to take a 3 hour break in the lodge. When the power was on again, it was 33/32 over most of the mountain and snow got heavy and creamy at the chair they opened, it was very slow 3 feet on the semi-flat runs on that side. I'm hoping to return to Lookout before spring touring season begins, but it's definitely less likely since Snowbowl will be fully open and deep today.

    Was at silver Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday it dumped all day. Decent amount of pow but a bit on the heavy side. Wednesday was awesome as the 7 inches of additional snow were light and the previous heavy snow provided a great base.

    It did get really choppy, as expected, towards the end of both days

    Coverage is pretty decent now. Definitely hit some stumps and rocks but not too bad if you stay out of the trees

    I may or may not be as well. NOAA is calling for more snow until next Wednesday. Not sure if it will be a ton of snow or a simple inch a day. But it's still a good sign!

    And a heads up to y'alls, there is free night skiing at Schweitzer tonight (the 21st). If youve never gone don't expect to be hitting powder lines at dark 😂. They open a couple runs up and it's usually a good time. Snow coverage should be good tonight also!

    For anyone thinking of back country around N. ID, be very careful. Schweitzer Ski Patrol put this up yesterday afternoon on their FB page, in-bounds slide. This is looking at Little Timber to the looker's right of Chair 6 (Snow Ghost). It was a natural that went overnight, night before last. They reported a 6' crown on this baby... It's pretty sketchy out there.

    It's extremely sketchy out there right now. Lots of sledders headed out today. I hope to not read of a bunch of burials this holiday weekend.

    I was hopping the road cuts on Have Fun at Schweitzer this morning and the third one down left me a little further above the snow than expected. Turned around to see about an 18" crown that slid sometime after the snow stopped yesterday, or more likely this morning.
    Very clean surface under it. Not a steep slope, but obviously a very small radius convex rollover. NE aspect and they just opened that part of the hill so not heavily tracked.

    We went out the triple gate weekend before last and saw how large the hoar frost crystals were; 1-1.25" or so on the NE aspect and figured this was going to be a problem when we got a got dump. It's going to take some time to heal this.

    40-fun-degrees North was fast today;
    low temps and a wee wind chill kept the westside riffraff in town;
    a good time was had by all

    Big crustals all over the new stuff on Wednesday this week, too, but probably not quite 1". Hoping the slower rate of adding on the last couple days helps, but there's definitely a layer down there.

    Silver was waaaay better than expected. Knee deep turns if a guy knew where to look. Found a few untouched spots that were mid thigh. Rest of the mountain was high speed softness. Great day.

    reconnoitered the Hwy. 20 switchbacks above Tiger today;
    got in a few turns but tough to link 'em up, very boney;
    did some beacon searches and conveyor shoveling for fun;
    good to get on the skins with a full pack; grilled some NY strips
    light flurries all day; FAT clusters of perfect sd

    What's the deal re RV parking at the following areas?
    Silver - ETA: I confirmed free RV parking in lot across from gondola, 3 nights max, no fires
    49 Degrees N
    Mt. Spokane
    Lookout Pass

    Honey and I are pondering a camper-based ski trip for New Years weekend. Thanks

    you will be good to go at 49 degrees N and Lookout pass, i believe.

    technically, Mt Spokane is in a state park that closes every night, so i don't think that's an option.
    Not sure about parking overnight in the Silver parking lots in Kellogg.

    Thanks

    I put in a request to Lookout re RV parking.

    Snow forecast looking very good. I'll work on Honey and my buds to get over there to ski the pow comin' in this weekend through Tuesday. My Plan A is to hit Silver and maybe Lookout for a day.

    Lookout is super chill, and I think you can park just a few yards from the lift. Bring cash for beers/food as the Credit Card system up there is really slow. Looks like there is good touring across the street too.
