As crazy as it sounds, $30k for a split window T2 transporter seems inline with expectations. I wonder if they still have the drop down sides.

Westfalia, Type II, Bus, Vanagon, and all air cools!
That’s not overpriced! Sweet ride. I would also want the sides.

Transporter would be nice. Sides for sure. 4 door would be preferable. Years ago the guys at freedom bike shiop shuttled us up the mountain in their splitty transporter. 5 bikes and 5 guys comfy as. Nice ride

They only have one speed and thats slow. Theyre geared to pull. I put 65k miles on my splitty and more than half that had atleast 4 of us with bikes, gear and cooking stuffs in the mts. Probably much heavier than that set up id think. The weight slowed us down, probably as much as the wind. 60mph eastbound at 55 west on the flats.
Ya I mustve missed the $100k part itd be cool to have but for that kind of cheddar id be into something else

Is it an adventure or “how much bullshit can I deal with on one trip!”? I would recommend a Honda generator, adapter and gas can strapped to the roof. Or yeah get those solar panels going.

I was thinking a honda genset for atleast the first bit. He's rolling now and covering ground. Getting a few free recharges too. I would think we'll see pop up companies offering E conversions in the future

I've briefly looked into converting my Vanagon to electric. The Tesla motor way it's nice but predictably pretty costly. The big hurdle is obvious: it's a heavy vehicle that's shaped like a brick, so it needs a shitload of batteries to go any decent distance.
For $20k I think I could do it, not counting my own labor of course. Considering what modern vans go for, it might actually be worth it.ride bikes, climb, ski, travel, cook, work to fund former, repeat.

Im thinking the low weight will have some needed benefits too. Better handling and even better traction than the already outstanding
