I spent a most of the day under my 84 Westy. Shifting problems. Loose and sloppy. While taking a test drive in GTNP it got stuck in first and we hobbled hone. Thankfully it wasn’t too far.
I took apart the shift lever. It was flopping around on the toothed pin coming out of the transmission.
See worn teeth. I was pretty bummed. The spines on the shift pin won’t engage the teeth on the shift lever.
I don’t have a good pic, but I stacked some lock washers against the shoulders of the shift pin and tightened it all up.
Shifting alike a dream. Way smoother than it was before. It looks as if it will be a semi permanent fix.Ski Shop - Basement of the Hostel

Are there still good sources for aftermarket parts?

For about twenty minutes I thought my transmission was shot. My lock washer fix will be superseded by an actual repair kit available from several sources. It thought this was a catastrophic event. After some research, it is a pretty common occurrence and an easy fix. Whew!
Parts are everywhere for Vanagons. Easy to get. Chinese are the lowest quality and subsequently the cheapest. Brazilian is the next level up, and German are the best and most expensive.Ski Shop - Basement of the Hostel

unless that Sinka has Safari windows, don't bump into anything! the front bumper will curl up and render the doors inoperable! I'm pretty sure you wont fit thru wing or sliding windows!Scientists now have decisive molecular evidence that humans and chimpanzees once had a common momma and that this lineage had previously split from monkeys.

Guessing Mid/late 60’s with those signals. Rear window seems a bit small. 64/65?

Westfalia, Type II, Bus, Vanagon, and all air cools!
Looks similar to this ‘57 owned by the folks that run the local general store.
Later parking lights and mirrors though.

The one I have runs and drives fine but is kind of a shitbox IMO. Interior needs work. Some rust.
Owner wants all the money. He didn't like my 20k number."I don't pretend to have all the answers, and I think there's something to be said for that" -One For The Road

The chassis might be a 64. The engine is probably a rebuilt.
