Thumbs up 2013/14 Crested Butte Stoke/ Conditions/ Info

Well, we went skiing so I guess it's time for another thread. Hopefully a bunch of people can make the trip here this year with the new pass deals- Loveland gets 3 days, and so does everyone in the "powder alliance". Things are off to a good start. More photos/ TR.

If it hits I'm hoping to drop by. I have a buddy living there this winter. 3 days with my Snowbowl pass.

Looks like a good start. I love that area. We do a family ski trip out there every year and last July got to spend a week camping out by Lake Irwin. Not sure if I like it better in the winter or the summer. One of these years I want to take a week during the winter and go down there for some BC tours.

I feel like the worst father though when we leave every year. I think my little girls love it just as much as I do.

I just met this surveyor Fred who works for us. He told me that he wanted you to come work for him, but you were always too busy skiing and fishing . If Ben seines this summer, can I work on your boat?

Hey guys, here's a season compilation from last year. Made this late in the season, so figured I'd hold off on sharing it until now. Hope you enjoy!

Good skiing in sheltered areas, though:

    AIARE sent this link over:

CRESTED BUTTE - Two skiers accidentally triggered an avalanche near Crested Butte over the weekend, according to Crested Butte Search and Rescue.

No one was injured and authorities didn't have to respond to the slide, said Crested Butte Search and Rescue President Nicholas Kempin.

On the Crested Butte Avalanche Center's Facebook page, a post was written Sunday saying the avalanche happened in the Paradise Divide area.

The Paradise Divide area is a popular place for backcountry adventurers.

The post went on to say the avalanche slide ran 600 feet and carried one of the two skiers 300 feet. However, the skier was able to stay on top of the slide and wasn't injured.

In some parts of the high country snow is being measured in feet right now. You'll mostly find that amount of accumulation at higher altitudes on top of mountains.

Search and Rescue teams are warning people to be cautious and to pay attention to the weather every day.

"It can vary from day to day. You can have really stable conditions one day and have a wind event that night, that maybe you slept through, and then have conditions changes quite a bit in to the next day," Kempin said.

Another human triggered slide happened near Crested Butte a week ago. No one was injured in that incident either.

It's important for back country skiers to remember they should always have beacons and shovels with them while exploring.
