Is this your 42nd year without a cup? I'm a Cubs fan too - so I can empathize.

Do you think Kesler will make the first line with Kane?
Luo has been playing pretty well so far, not amazing, not terrible. Lack has proven his worth as a strong backup so far. Man, Chicago is definitely on a tear so far, but that was an awesome game the other week between VAN and CHI (I really do hate shootouts though). As for the Olympics, I predict Kesler would be the 2nd line center used to try and shut down the other teams top lines since he has a strong defensive game. I would think Kane's abilities put him on the top line to start, and maybe Kesler would move up to center it later. It's sure going to be awesome to watch though.

And I know this isn't a hockey forum so I'll try to keep it to skiing related posts from now on. Just skied at Alyeska in Girdwood, AK yesterday and it was pretty decent for December. Coming back to Portland this week but it doesn't look too promising after reading the above posts. Just got some Billygoats mounted with Guardians and they are awesome in the soft stuff!

Didn't really get softer. Just the groomer flurff. Was fun. Watch the rocks top of avalanche.

    off piste on s.side hood 9,000ft 12/24:

as with last week, at ~10,000+ this goes away a more uniform breakable crust comes with intermittent wind packed areas. i hoped system of 12/23 would have filled this shit in at least say at 8k+, but it only worsened what I'd found on 12/16.

it looks like there's little stashes of soft crust in between the shark's teeth. you just need really short skis.

Skied teh Ice again today. There many kinds of Ice. I like the Shiny, smooth polished kind. I don't like teh Icy chunks in mogul fields. They hurt when your ass lands on them.

^^^It skied way better than Tuesday, especially if you don't go out looking for glare ice to challenge yourself...

I would like to take this opportunity to endorse the ruggedness of ON3P bases & edges. They withstand (repeated) contact with volcanic rubble that cause bystanders to cringe, and barely a scratch.

Edit to add - Tap, thanks for the tip about the top of Avalanche - all the bodies strewn around the end of the track added to the fun. Only two rock whacks there...

In Bend for 5 nights - annual trip - really thinking about mountain biking versus even bothering with skiing. That's sad - first time in 5 years. That pic of S.Hood sums up this year so far.

ON3P makes rock skis - snow optional. Can't tell you how many core shots I would have on normal factory skis compared to my Goats. In most cases the rock loses.

Argh. This fuckin' blows. After 2 years away, having a very shitty early season to come back to is not going down well.

I'm taking the boy up this Saturday no matter what. First time for him. Magic carpet should be ridin' well.

Adding insult to injury, the Meadows daily conditions report is a hilarious attempt to polish a turd.

I share your pain. I cannot remember having not been up in a season at the end of December. Getting plenty of "honey do's out of the way in prep for the snows...if they ever come.

    Good luck Saturday.

My memory of 02/03 was that it was worse than this, but I guess there's plenty of time for it to suck harder. I'm thinking about a trip to montana in a couple weeks, so mark your calendars.

What ski could break the "crust" at Bachy measuring 1" thick. I hugged the edge of the groomers all day to get the ice shavings under my skis - occasionally missing the edge and chattering off into the forest. Pencil skinny straight sticks with at least 300#'s of tail riding gorilla is all I can imagine breaking through that ice layer.

Bringing a crew of friends to Bachelor next week; are there any CC skiing areas open nearby in case the hill is unskiable? Are we going to be forced to go biking instead?
