    MPC #111 Sunstars 9/23-10/14

Sunstars are the bright rays of light emanating from a bright point of light such as the sun, street lights, bright reflections etc. shot through narrow aperture. A good starting point is f16, but they can be brought out with wider and might look better with narrower. The number of rays is determined by the number of blades in your lens. Even numbered blades will produce the same number of points, while odd numbered blades will produce 2x the points. Play around with different lenses, different apertures, and different sources of light. Don't go blind shooting at the sun though your viewfinder though, use live view or something.

    RULES:
    1. Photos must be taken within the time period of the contest.
    2. You may submit 3 photos during the competition.
    3. The contest moderator will choose 5 photos to be voted on.
    4. The winner will get a happy feeling in his/her pants. (That is a rule by the way, not an option.)
    5. In the event of a tie, the contest moderator will have the deciding vote.
    6. Winner will be the contest starter/moderator for the next comp.
    7. The winner has 3 days to start a new contest or 2nd place becomes the new winner.

This MPC is really discriminatory against those of us in the PNW.

    Fight the power!

Go take a pic of some solar panels getting rained on.

Or some hippy's kid named sunstar (you know that fucker exists).

No vision in this place, I tell ya.

Sunstar is a Portland stripper now, but they don't let you take cameras in there.

Sadly Vancouver is out as well. Not a submission but here is one of my shots up the Indian Arm from last year. Obviously not in the time frame but since i will not see the sun for at least another 6 months, this is all I have.

You guys can also take a picture of a street light or any other bright light source, and still get the same effect. I don't know what else to call the effect, but it doesn't have to be sun-specific.

My crappy camera was pretty overwhelmed looking straight at the sun and it doesn't really produce a very good "star" but I'll submit these anyway. And you PNWers need to stop feeling so sorry for yourselves. This is the first peak foliage season in 4 years that we have enjoyed any sun here in the NE. Here in the NEK, we have it just as bad (or worse) than you.

Sure, why not? I didn't even know such a thing existed.

The first one counts, the second is just kinda gross. I know, circle of life and all, but I can smell that picture.

The aspen are all turning brown from the snow, so they aren't photographing too well.

Yes, the monuments are shut down, no that isn't stopping anyone.
