Jim definitely has the best news out about it right now- yea I noticed rideit the comment section for that one is particularly epic! driving by there this morning I really did notice the whole 'sand bowl' shape of that area. I imagine that WAG got that property for dirt cheap?
And fwiw about the uphill traffic- I've gotta agree that had you just kept to a nice area far away and stayed out of people's ways, you most likely would have got to enjoy a nice skin up JH. I guess I don't ever really expect to get a clear/accurate answer on land issues from a liftie either- let alone a polite answer at the end of the season haha.
Sorry to say it but had you just been more casual about it, it prob wouldn't have been an issue- I think they also sorta view it as, if you are asking about this-you're a gaper.

Shralp wasn't bothered on trail, in fact he was cheered on by ski patrol from above as they ascended in big red.
Where Shralp went "wrong", sadly, is asking a lifty at the bottom of Bridger gondola where they were doing operations. He was trying to be courteous and safe. I can attest that we had ops going on all over that mountain that day (Tuesday). I think Shralp got a little more of a cowboy response then he expected and that's how JHMR keeps people away.
Best way to poach the village off-season in my personal experience is stealth like, paying a lot of attention to ops and being respectful but strong willed when approached.to ski another day

I have three passes for Targhee up for grabs if anyone can use them, (not transferable to next season). A six pack or a cold tap beer would be nice in return but not necessary.
Pm me if you want them, (1,2 or 3). If you have my number, call or text.

made a try at the east face of teewinot today. ran into a thigh/waist deep wind slab just below the narrows and had to pull the plug
talked to a guy in the parking lot who got turned around in the stettner due to "neck deep wallowing"
it was pretty amazing how much snow there was in certain places up high today.

Just got a job in and moved to the Jackson area and looking for spring ski buddies. I've got a decent amount of BC experience (7 years bc skiing in front range, Avy 2, taught an Avy awareness class, lots of spring peak bagging in co). Open to pretty much anything as the area is pretty new to me. Drop me a PM if you'd like to get out for a few runs

Sick Oceanman! Was hoping to do a glory lap last night after work, seems like it would have been perfect corn, but got the ol' amoeba fever from dunking my head under the water at Huckleberry hot springs this weekend... damn! perchance the snow we're supposed to get this week will make the N-facing stuff more Togwotee-esque. Franz, welcome to town!

glory was super fun yesterday around 3. Dust on top of some slightly soft mashed potatoes made for groomer-like conditions. The old pinwheels, however, were rock hard death cookies .
I might go up again in an hr or two, but those clouds look pretty unfriendlyLive

Thanks for the Teewinot report. The narrows look really filled in. Still winter up high. I've been finding some spectacular corn skiing on E and S aspects below 10K. Smoothness is key.
So, I know books are like so 20th century and all, but the Planet recently ran a teaser on local author Tom Turiano's soon to be published "Jackson Hole Backcountry Skier's Guide: South". Figured folks reading this forum would be interested.
The book will be something like 400 pages with over 500 pics devoted to backcountry ski routes in the northern Winds, Wyoming Range, Salt River, Snake River & Gros Ventre ranges & south of HWY22 on the pass. Sounds cool.
Normally I would scoff at the idea of paying $95 for a guidebook, but being familiar with his work makes me reconsider. 'Teton Skiing' is great and 'Select Peaks' is a damned masterpiece. It'll be sad to see the west side of the Salt River range get publicity, but I can't hate on the guy as he has likely done a fine job with the book. I'm looking forward to checking it out."The two best times to fish is when it's rainin' and when it ain't." - Rancid Crabtree

Dunafee, thanks for the welcome! Oceanman and media, I'd love to get out on a tour soon, game for whatever. I've got a 9-5 so weekends are my big tour days and afternoons are my short shots.
Booted the king after work yesterday, horrific frozen death crust on the way down. Good to get out and get some exercise though
