    avid xo brake taperbore adjustment

    i just adjusted my reach.
how does one make the 'pad adjustment', from the lever?
the rubber boot/barrel adj do not seem to do anything.
    what gives?

On my elixir 9s turning the contact adjustment in (clockwise, against the arrow) moves the pads out. Not sure why the arrow is the other direction.

The other thing you can do is pull the wheel off and slowly squeeze the brake lever in to get them closer. The manual on the sram site has the specifics.

The "in" arrow on the lever references the lever throw. So turning with the arrow will move the pad contact point on the lever throw in, or closer to the bar. The pads don't actually move, essentially the master cylinder is moving.
Buttah, if the adjustment isn't doing anything when you turn the barrel end to end, I think you might have a bunch of air in the lever. If you have a bleed kit, you can do a hasty bleed and just pull air out of the lever, then push more fluid in, otherwise you might want to bleed the whole system. It never hurts with avids.

ok, so i made the reach adjust with the stoopid small allen, in the hardest part to reach on the lever.
that's some quality engineering right there, wtf?
adjusted them closer to the bar.
now, i need the 'pads' to contact earlier, so as to not hit my finger/thumb.
when i peel the boot back, it's a large black barrel with a silver threaded nut sticking out.
    still confused.

Well, now it makes a lot more sense. Thanks.

If you don't have toolless reach adjust, you probably don't have pad contact adjust. The boot and nut you're talking about connects the hose to the lever. Don't touch!

remove boot, hold the bolt next to the brake body still, turn the outer one next to the hose, careful not to undo it to far, it can pop off and leak fluid all over hell... found that one out the hard way, think you are supposed to have two full turns of adjustment if remembering right

I don't think those have contact adjustment. Here's the pad advance procedure:

Yep, then it's what stuckat said. Bleed, remove wheel, squeeze lever to get pads closer to rotor. There ya go.

AFAIK, that particular model was a no frills stripped down one for lighter weight.
