TR - The "October Patch" on September 1, 2013
First, there was a recon mission the previous day, August 31st, to make sure that skiable snow would be available.
The blue arrow points to the "October Patch" - this was taken from the shoreline of Caples Lake.
The next day coastal fog moved pretty far inland and/or smoke from the Rim Fire drifted north.
Here is our view from Carson Pass:
Roundtop is somewhere up there.
Looking back down on the approach:
Woods Lake is somewhere down there.
You can sort of see Sisters:
Looking across Roundtop Lake up at Roundtop:
Another view across Roundtop Lake:
Rossi is in the foreground. The Driveway Patch is in the other side of Roundtop Lake. Since it was only big enough to park a small motorcycle, we headed out further to the "October Patch"
Rossi flies down first:

Caples Lake is somewhere down there.

Gone2Alpine is now at 36 consecutive months (3 years!) skiing. I'm at 119 consecutive months.Last edited by Vets; 09-02-2013 at 02:39 PM.

I don't understand why...but every moment of my day today still tasted like bacon.
Fun day that probably reduced my lifespan insignificantly. Nice TR.

Nice work fellas - exactly what I would be doing if I was within driving distance of a snow patch that was within walking distance.
Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Natures peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn. - John Muir

I'm amazed there's that much snow still left after that shit winter and this damn hot summer.
Well done!

Nice TR, good to see there is still some snow with a poor winter and such a hot summer.
If ski companies didn't make new skis every year I wouldn't have to get new skis every year.

Way to get it done. I can only imagine what your October turns will look like.

Mallory's "Because it's there" seems like a relevant quote for this TR
Be careful about buying snowboard goggles for skiing. Snowboard goggles come in right eye and left eye (for goofy-footers) dominant models. This can make it hard to see correctly when skiing because you are facing straight down the hill, not sideways.
