Go 4 flex in either length. Stock is to soft imho.

My stock 196s are fantastic pow day afternoons when the mountains all soft chop. Day after pow days; forget about it.

Fuck. fuck. fuck. I love this ski.

Owned the Silver Samurai since summer and never skied it until today. 208 lbs 192 Flex 4 Carbon mounted at -1 w pivot 15s. Really solid early morning at Copper today with about 10"of fresh in sunshine at 9am. Got multiple fresh runs and 4x super softie giant bumps. Solid steeps. I heart this so thing so bad. First time on a true reverse sidecut. Do own a reverse camber ski with traditional sidecut. As has been said oh so many times - the Protest just wins in soft snow. Intuitive for me on the first down. Even right off the lift. The baby bonsai camber is perfection and makes it totally manageble anywhere you go on a good day. No issues on hard snow at all, which makes the soft snow performance all the more incredible. This was the most fun I have had in a long time.

In 3D snow i really don't want anything else now. It fucked me up. It was so fun, easy, exploded pow on face, option to run it straight or slippy dippy on the tail in a tight spot. Stable as F. Felt smaller than it looks in a good way. Agree the less fresh snow its in, the less you will eventually want to be on a ski this wide. Duh. But any cut up soft chop is equally fun to untracked. Use it accordingly. Someone also commented they count the quality of the season by the number of protest days. Yea - i get that now.

On mount point -> Grinch is correct and i would recommend -1 or -1.5 based on your preference, your physical size and the ski size. For context, I Really like -6 on a 190 Wildcat, -5 on a Deathwish, M118 at about -7.8. Im always after centered stance with option for Forward-Tip-Ripping and a loose tail. Wildcat line being my reference point for this general concept in my quiver at least. The protest is money for me at -1 and if anything would go to -1.5. I could see line or +1 if you were more on the centered stance side of the equation and prefer the -3 to -4 mount positions generally.

ender9099, it's not a reverse sidecut, but it's pretty damn straight.

Concur. I have the OG 188 and I'm 6 1 , 200. On really deep days and open snow I would have liked the 192, but I used these on the rare deep EC day and they were spectacular in the trees so I'm happy with the length. The original mount point is a bit forward and that in combo with the ginsu sharp and kind of minimally beveled edges that were staples of the 10 year ago Praxis finish made the tips a little grabby and divey at low speed. They are currently unmounted as with kids in tow I've switched to 188 Q as a more versatile travel ski, but I have a set of older jester demos that I'm going to put on them to screw around with moving the mount back a bit. Still have had the best days of my life skiing deep inbounds days on this ski, both East and West

Hey all! So I'm new to the protest fan club with a cheap beater pair of OG 188's with so many holes in them... I'm gonna put inserts in and try to harvest at least half an existing set of toe holes. Which means I can either mount on the line (-8 from center) or -1.5 back from line. Consensus here seems to be the latter (the -1.5). Some more context...
In favor of line = My fave skis are the old 4frnt EHPs. I have two pairs mounted -6 (0.5cm behind hoji rec) and love em for everything, very pivoty and slashy. Still use them a ton and got the Protests thinking they're more of a big EHP vs the 4frnt renegade (ren = way more tip/tail rocker)
In favor of back = These protests will be pow specialists given their size and all the freaking holes which makes me a bit fearful really stressing these. So being 1.5 cm back would lose some pivot/slash, but presumably gain some pow planing (especially since the OGs are less rockered I think)
Net-net given above and general tgr consensus, leaning toward back from the line
Thanks in advance for thoughts and help on the ski therapy

Mount them on the line. I have no idea how people say they have tip done with these skis. I have a pair on the line and they’re great. I prefer renegades, but of its upside down or wind affected, my protests totally eliminate the difficulties of said conditions.

You don’t loose anything by going back. I prefer the protest, 188 we are talking about, 102.5 from the tip.

Just a theory but i think the low rocker skis are more finnicky with where you mount. If you find your spot its all good. Im thinking more splay allows the mount point to move around a bit more without suffering tip dive.
I had my 177 p tests at -1.5 and i could point them through or at anything without a problem. Went to a 187 thinking id go on the dimple but i found the longer tail ratio pushed meforward and the tips down. Went back to my -1.5 and the invincibility feeling returned. Thats my spot no doubt

Thx on the mounting thoughts above. Hmmm tough call. May choose based on which holes are easiest to re-use. Psyched to try these out. These beaters may just be test sleds to then get me onto a new or newer pair

I have the OG 188 and I've found on the line occasionally at lower speeds the tips kind of drag and can pull down. Not true tip dive , but it's like a dragging sensation that's annoying. And I typically like more centered skis , as I'm not an ex racer or anything . I would lean toward going back a bit of given another choice

I've been searching for a pair of 196 and found these. Guy doesn't know the model, look like Protests to me? Price seems high and I'm unfortunately not close enough to go look but thought someone may be interested.

Not Protests, but just found these available in Wenatchee if someone here is 7'0 350 pounds and looking for a pair of sweet new pow boards. I can't even imagine how gigantic and stiff these skis must be (ULLRs, Flex 5, +10, 157-133-145).

Saw those as well and thought about it. Would be fun to try out but resale would be tough. Guessing those will be there for a while.

Those don't look like protests to me. Not enough taper.

Damn I want to go see these bad boards
Common sense. So rare today in America it's almost like having a superpower.
