Air shocks air shocks air shocks

Have we talked about them yet?

If you rode a blurTR that felt like a nomad, SC changed something.......drastically. Either the shock or the frame design from the one I rode. It was the must un-santa cruz bike I've ever ridden.

It didn't feel like a Nomad (like I said, nowhere near as plush), but it was CLOSER to my Nomad than I wanted, at least compared to the ASR5 - the TRC certainly absorbed more energy - more than I was hoping for. It was similar to the Blur XC (but I didn't really get to ride that one on any REAL trail). Think quiver overlap. I'd have a harder time deciding which one to take. But we'll see. I'll get to take the ASR5 out on a real trail soon, which could end up changing my mind.

Wish I could find a Transition Bandit to play with around here.

As a curiousity, what don't you like? The deadness and lack of trail feel?

Spec SJ EVO is worth trying out. I was looking for exactly the kind of bike you describe and the Evo fit the bill for me. Reasonably poppy out of the box, although I may look into a volume reducer when I get a chance. I would like to try a TRc though.

For me it was the feeling of 8" of travel when I didn't need it and 2" when I did.

Were you on a stock mk2? If so, that makes sense. Hugely different feel from mk1 with coil.

Meh. There's only so much you can fix with a coil.

But basically what dfinn said. Version 1, version 2, air or coil. Plus short front ends for disproportionately long chainstays.......those things are just weird.
