Bump. I'm looking for some info on these as well, especially stiffness. I've been riding the Icelantic Seeker the past two seasons and the stiffness profile fits the riding I'm doing perfectly (super stiff, tip rocker, camber underfoot, flat tail), but the big 10k vert long distance days on them with Guardians are brutal. Looking to slap some dynafits on these. I realize they ski completely different, but I want something that rails and isn't hooky, which has been my experience with tip/tail rocker skis.
5'8 135 lbs. Aggressive, deliberate, finessey style. Think they'd work?

Haven't skied the Raven yet, but all of Hoji's past designs (EHP, Renegades and Hoji) are absolutely not hooky skis, I would expect the Raven to follow suit given the dimensions and rocker profile.
At your size I'd go for these, all the early reviews have been positive and you are relatively light so over-skiing is not likely.

Considering picking up a pair of Ravens at the 4frnt pre-sale.
Anybody able to share something about the hard-snow performance? I'm not thinking about firm windblown chalk, I'm sure they are just fine there. I'm thinking more about the ice you find when you drop into a steep spring line an hour to early in the day. I want a ski that can stop when I want it to, not just keep sliding sideways.

^^Curious myself. Tough decision between the Raven, Countdown 102, and 179 Bro. (Steeple 102 would be there, too, but I don't think the RES tip and pintail will do well on ice.)

They are a touring pow ski. I skied them on ice at the Hood demo last spring, performed like a pow ski on ice. Might not cut it for situations like sf is asking about. IMO Not stiff enough, plus no camber. I felt like they were getting bounced all over the place and didn't have enough grab. I would have already ordered a pair but I feel like I would have to get rid of the hojis first and they didn't perform well enough on ice to replace my 98 kastles for volcanos.

The website does not mention anything about a skins specific mounting hole ::

So maybe next years'?

Wait...who seriously needs a tail-clip hole for their skins? I get Dynafit's whole lwt skin/attachment system for rando racers, but I don't know anybody who consistently tours on flat-tailed skis who has serious issues with their tail clips staying attached. I just don't get why that's helpful. Seems like it might even make it harder to rip skins quickly...?

4frnt uses skins that have an environmentally friendly glue. The skins do not stick as well as regular skins, particularly when peeling and reapplying in cold weather.
The holes would make those skins stay in place better. Hell, if 4frnt does this right, they might even be able to move to a relatively glueless system.
Personally, I like that 4frnt considers and develops environmentally friendly solutions where they are practical.Last edited by iscariot; 08-04-2014 at 11:55 PM.

Holy shit you guys are a bunch of negative nancies. Who said anything about it being for staying on? He cuts the skins shorts so they are lighter and attached an elastic quick pull with the toggle bit on the end. He lays the skin out, stretches the elastic and pops the toggle through the hole. Voila. Quick, light, solid. It may or may not come out, ever. It's Eric though, he is always trying to make stuff better and learn. Hell, if any of you actually looked at his Dynafit set up either your heads would explode or tgr forums would crash because of all the bitching, hypothesizing and begging going on.

For the same reason people do stuff like this? http://www.wildsnow.com/13689/rat-ta...n-attach-tail/
Makes it slightly harder to knock the clips off by being inept, and less likely that the clips will just pop off due to skin stretch. Probably more important for the 'glueless' skins 4frnt is selling, given the past issues of geck skins, etc.
Not done like the K2 skins then? With a strap through the tail notch and clipped into the hole from above?Last edited by coldandwet; 08-06-2014 at 01:25 AM.

Checked out the Ravens in shop today. Impressive looking ski. They are much stiffer especially through the tail than I was expected. Stiffer than a Hoji and about the same or maybe a touch stiffer than the Renegade I would say. They weighed in at 1900grams/ski on the scale at the shop. The rocker profile is much mellower than that of the Hoji or Renegade, but still full reverse. The reverse part is difficult to perceive under foot but still there. Looks like a great variable conditions touring ski.

^^That sounds promising. I'm still really curious about the whole 23/30 m stated radius.
