I watched it since it was happening just up the street. Chelsea toyed with them for about 65-70 minutes just to make it fun then just totally destroyed them during the final 20..

You’re talking about the Wrexham FC - Chelsea match.

We’re talking about the MLS All-Star game against Arsenal.

Give the all-stars a few weeks to practice together and it won’t be a fair match.

There’s no shortage of guys on that MLS All-Star roster that will get snatched up by top flight Euro clubs in short order, reigning World Cup champ and Atlanta United’s Thiago Almada among them.

Is there a salary cap to prevent someone from building a 70s NY Cosmos Death Star team these days?

Might as well start a general Footy/Soccer thread

That was too easy for Messi! The World is a different place tonight.

    Stunning.

Who wore it better? First MLS game Messi or first MLS game Zlatan?

I think this. Zlatan's first goal especially was just other worldly.

Was it Alex Morgan who had one like that recently? Everyone I've played with loves the idea of catching the keeper too far out and burning it over/past them like that.. I've only done it to to my son's team mates when we were practicing..

Zlatan came in when the Galaxy was down, scored the long goal & then the winning goal, IIRC. Way more flash and entertaining, but Messi's was so sublime and he seems more into his team than himself. Zlatan's quotes are great if you view them as 'tongue in cheek' and not truly serious.

I don't usually follow soccer much, but holy hell Japan just murdered Spain in the Women's WC. 4-0 and I think they said Japan only had like 5 shots on goal...

Well that was a total shitshow from the US. Completely outcoached. Portugal had a diamond 4 and just smothered our midfield and wide players. 3 on the ball for them defensively whenever we touched it out wide in the middle third, and our support players were 20 yards away so there was no way to pass out. We're relying on our outside backs and wingers to go 1 on 2 or even 3 and be successful, sending no one in to show for a pass. Literally no one time after time. Hard to believe. In contrast, Portugal was working to have 3 players showing for the ball at all times. We have space on the far side and even in the middle but there is no way to get the ball there since we have no one to link the play.

And at no point did we switch tactics. Kind of amazing.

I tried to lay low before I watched the recording. I did accidently see post "USA Avoids Embarrassment" so I knew it was going to end in a tie.

Sweden will destroy us unless there are major changes.. Oh well. They're still better than our men hahahahaha

Allan Saint-Maximin has left Newcastle United, joining Saudi Arabian side Al-Ahli for an undisclosed fee.

This blows for a number of reasons. He was fun to watch and getting better not the over the hill types that Saudi have signed to date ( even Mahrez best years are behind him) plus shady as fck Saudi can do deals between its league and a team it owns.

$ in football about to get more shady and obvious if that was possible.

But it's a fair Situation compared to Clubs who don't have an autocratic Investor trying to sportswash their state brand?

And I'm not sure what sjg wants to say, but I'm sure he's ok with Emirates money. Pillars of Human rights and religious freedom.
