PSG lacks a strong holding defensive mid. Probably the most important position in modern soccer, if not at all glamorous. During both their good runs this century Madrid has had an excellent holding mid, makelele and casemiro. Leicester won the premier with Kante, the best holding mid I’ve seen in years. Give me one world class striker and half back, mixed with a top level holding mid and you can win anything. All the other pieces are easy.

    Right
Most goals ever scored in competitive matches (807) and most hat tricks (55) for Ronaldo.

United still a few years from 21, but 20 titles still leads the league...

Gunners are right in it. Looking solid.

Amazing game by Ronaldo, with Tom Brady looking on in the stands.

Yeah Arsenal looks better. Solid game to game now. Xhaka playing much higher up the pitch is an improvement in a number of ways. Partey is the defensive shield, Oodegard the creative force, and Xhaka keeps things flowing and moving (he’s an excellent passer).

All that said, we will know a lot more after they play Liverpool next. I assume they’ll lose, and that’s fine, but will they compete?

I thought it was a decent game overall. Not winning hurt given the two gilt edge chances the US couldn't put away (or in one case, get even vaguely on target), but a draw at Estadio Aztecs is a good result. The team gave as well as they got or better until the last 10 minutes when they bunkered.

That one Gio Reyna dribble was worth the price of admission. If only there'd been someone to lay it off to at the end.

    yep.
US had moments, could of won, and a point at Azteca is huge.

considering who is out, all bodes well. Gio is special, and so young

that “gritty” and “hard fought” nil-nil draw should have been a cruise but we can’t finish

US has always had a striker problem, but think we should be good as these kids develop and more options are healthy

    Dike will begin to deliver

I mean, don't get me wrong, I groaned loudly enough at Pefok's miss that my wife came over to see if I had somehow injured myself. On the balance of chances, we were the better team and should have taken the three points. But there was lots of good too. I thought the center back pairing looked really good. I thought we did a good job pressing, especially early.

Having watched the whole game, I wouldn't have expected a cruise had Pulisic buried his chance. I thought the last 10 minutes when the US decided to play for the draw were where Mexico was most dangerous. I would have been afraid that we would have decided to defend that lead and I am not confident enough in our counterattack to relieve the pressure. Obviously I'd have preferred that Pulisic scored, but I don't think it would have been a cruise in any case.
