I was only 10 at the time, but I remember very vividly watching this game on the TV in my basement with my dad and 2 uncles.

Ive always thought that it must be very hard for those who have achieved so much at a young age to live out the rest of their lives defined by their past success.

I think thats why I’ve consistently tried to be slightly above average. Gotta pace yourself.

Here are the two goals against England in the 86 WC:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY40__rBvSk

What is of note is that the hand goal was STILL an incredible goal. He slaloms through several defenders, chips the ball to a teammate, a poor clearance by the English guy, THEN he punches it in. But the close control to beat those several defenders is just insane. People only remember the fact that he cheated, and I can understand why, the the dribbling to set it up was nuts.

The second goal is maybe the greatest in WC history. It was a youth league goal, he just gets the ball in his own half and dribbles past half the England team.

RIP. Polarizing. Flamboyant. Brilliant. I don't know if anyone has ever played better than he did at the 1986 WC. It is sad that he is gone, but he packed quite a bit into 60 years.

That second goal was 4 minutes after the hand of god goal too. Incredible.

Crazy scenes in Paris. Obviously all still just alleged but good on the teams for standing up for what's right.

Nope. That piece of shit and general fatass Anthony Precourt tried his best to pull an Art Modell and yank the founding franchise Columbus Crew to Austin, even going so far as to negotiate (and allegedly pay off) Austin Councilmembers/Commissioners (whatever the fuck they are in Texas) to approve the new stadium before getting MLS approval.

Then...the dumb piece of shit and his crack legal team completely forgot about the "Modell Law" on the books in Ohio that says if any pro sports franchise takes public dollars to build their facilities then they have to first offer the sale of the franchise to a local ownership group before being allowed to sell. Atty Gen. and now Gov. DeWine sued, and facing defeat (law was upheld in prior contests by Precourt) Precourt sold to one of the most amazing owners in all of pro sports: Your Cleveland Browns' Jimmy and Dee Haslam.

Now the Crew are in the MLS Final on Saturday and getting a sweet new stadium downtown next to the Bluejackets' Nationwide Arena and (of the best AAA parks I've seen) Columbus Clippers' Park.

Fuck owners like that fat turd.

Oh, and here's to a speedy rebuilding for my ATL UTD.

This new offside rule and VAR is atrocious. How is someone's hand/elbow being behind a defender an advantage? The offside calls such as against Madison in Leicester v Tottenham this morning is going to ruin footy. Same thing a few weeks ago in Leeds' match where the player pointing to where he wanted the ball caused him to be offside because his hand was behind the defender. The list goes on and on. Shoulders/head/legs behind the defender? Sure. A hand? No. Plus, the inconsistency such as in the City Southampton game yesterday when there was a clear hand ball in the box and VAR decides it's all good.
