Saw Mitch down at Ski Bonkers loading up on Salomon binders and sporting some new alpine boots.

Wow, this is really sad. Guess I'll finally make the migration to TGR.

Here's to a darker shade of blue forum boards!

There's (marginally) less assbaggery around here when the snow falls.

    Emphasis on the marginally.

If someone could make a jacket of those three things it would no doubt be the most popular and prized item in all of your closets.

I've noted that the shade of blue depends on how high one pegs the stupid-meter.

Makes perfect sense to me. His own forum for his endless OT questions and blogs. Jellero, chemman and scaramouch. If only he would let Ron join the place would be perfect.

90% of what happened over the last decade re tele was fad. Tele is too much work for it to maintain anything but the underlying 10% of devotees who are able to disregard the work and inefficiency of tele in exchange for the groovy, swoopy feel.

No more or less to it than that. The fad is over. Which is good; all these youngsters dragging their knuckles all over the hills was a damned embarrassment.

Talking about tele was a fad...

    "my toes bend funny"

"my heel doesn't come up right"

    "are my bindings good enough?"

"what do I do with my back foot?"

"this is hard... should I get stiffer boots?"

"here's a pic of me... am I doing it right?"

"are my skis ok for tele?"

"what do I do with my hands"

"how far apart should my feet be?"

"these bindings are a pain to get into, I can't reach the heel throw"

"are my knees supposed to hurt?"

"I suck at this... do I need better gear?"

In the larger sense there is a faddish aspect to skiing and boarding in general. It's recreation for people with money.

Some sneetches has stars on their belly, some don't...they still sneetches..

Get over the BS, skiing is sking...there are rippers, the folks trying to become rippers, the folks who couldn't care less about ripping and, of course, there are the inept. How each sort gets down the hill is either beautiful or not. I take my inspiration from the sliders who rip in style.

Tele brought me back to down mountain skiing. It was a step in recovery from serious injury.

It was purely a matter of coincidence that leathers and pins on a second-hand pair of Kazamas showed me I could return to skiing (on the Sherby, 6" fresh) and also revealed that I needed to get some skills (Baron, same afternoon). In the interim I got some second hand AT skis ( w/Silvretta 500) and second hand rental boots ( )

Then a year and a half later, all new AT stuff and a couple years later the switch to tele was complete, I haven't used the AT gear in almost 5 years.

Skiing is....well, so much better than not skiing. (No slight against Riders, it's all downhill sliding to me) I do my part on tele gear...free-pivot rules!

To accommodate the lost souls of ttips wandering through this and other forums, TGR will likely be adding a tele forum under All Things Winter on the forum home page soon.

    no shit

    tele bindings suck

it wasn't until i got on bombers that I found a binding that didn't break. it really is a ridiculous way to ski. the big boots and the forces transmitted to the ski in such a small area leads to failure in the ski or the binding

    and yes, I suck

True, unless you're addicted to the swoopy, groovy feel, in which case it is the only way to ski
