My lovely television reckons close to a metre fell up towards Buller. I don't believe it, but could someone confirm a total for me?

Can't answer for Buller, it sounds optimistic though.
But because it fell with strong wind there are drifts deeper than that (at thredbo.)

Damn guys, I thought this was gonna be about Colorado getting a summer snow!

Why's Oz so far behind NZ?

Anyways, good luck with the snow!

Its luck and weather patterns which one gets the goods.
Early in the season a large stable high pressure system was sitting on Australia so frontal systems were forced south and delivered the goods to NZ.
Another time the pattern could be reversed.
Both places can get winter rain events
Aus is closer to the equator so overall a bit warmer on average
Both get a lot of wind overall stronger in NZ (roaring forties..) but Aus has trees so in lower parts of the resort the trees retain the snow more.

More importantly the rain stopped and the snow came back
So I started the day with a bit of jumping on hard slab (no bombs sadly)

It's not rocky mountain cold smoke but there's a few turns that make me smile

I learned a new descriptive for snow conditions the other day tho, 'coral reef!' It was very apt and it had me reduced to kick turns!
