400' of outside the front door going down sounds kinda fun, actually

edit: add a ropetow with a nutcracker. should be able to handle that run, pretty cheap.

I misread that originally and thought that was percent. 20 degrees is a whole different ballgame.

FWIW, NZ students regularly blow out beater car motors on this street at 19 degrees at the end of their annual rally. Having been there and driven it, it is terrifyingly steep on a dry sunny day in an underpowered rental car.

Sled shed, poma, t-bar, nutcracker or a whole lot of easement are your options. Whatever you do, put a slide in next to it for summertime decents.

This isn't unusual for the area.

    Practical side, yea...

The 400' is down TO the building site. Below that I have just over 1000' of 30 degree slope.

All the previous posters are doing it wrong.

Grade it to about 40* in steepness, then it will clear itself naturally in winter.

Funny how we all thought it was uphill...

You really need to have a shed for vehicles up top and like a Kawasaki mule with mad trax to make it between....

You missed that the building is at the bottom of the slope. It will clear itself into his front door...

Any pictures of the property? With all of the discussion I'm curious to see what we're really dealing with here.

rope tow from the bottom up to your house, with a second stop at the top of your driveway.

assuming that 1000' of 30* is covered in snow.

sounds like a good private ski area, can we be invited please?
where is that pic from lee lau with the BC power company's hut buried in giant snow pillows?

    curious as to your plans...
prefab the house with a few containers and heli it over? build a concrete wedge facing uphill to protect the house from avalanche?
solar and diesel power? what about running water?

instead of building a road, wouldn't it be cheaper to buy a snowcat and a couple snow machines for the winter? for the summer, horses should do. you can build stair steps. build winding paths for ATVs within that road width?

even with snow vehicles, what are you going to do about avy control?

Gonna do all the construction on site, getting there is dead easy (to me) with no snow, just steep and bumpy.

Building site is on a ridge, as is the road down to it, but downhill snow migration is still a concern.

Gonna get a well drilled, there's a guy up here with a truck that can handle the drive.
