Turnpike Troubadours (sometimes annoyingly popular does not equal not good. falls into the same category as "I don't like country music..yeah, Wilco...they are my favorite. Jayhawks? Haven't heard of them).

I saw him live and it was one of the best sounding live shows I've seen in a long time. Not sure what happened at Unicorn's show.

I find WM to creep into mainstream sound sometimes. I do like them OK though.

Most of the good new stuff's been covered pretty good here. I'll offer up Bob Wayne and Gethen Jenkins. I've seen both of these guys in local small spots. Bob Wayne's kind of quirky, but I like him. Usually has a kick ass band with him. Gethen was really good.

And DSM should be banned for his post in this thread alone. Good god, man.

I'm not a fan of his 'hit' music but there is no doubt he can slay. Solo starts around 5:22.

Seems like all the new country music I like is actually Americana. There is some awful country music out there for sure.

If you like Americana, check out Reckless Kelly out of Austin. I went to High School with the drummer. Pretty sure Foggy knows him too. They play with Robert Earl Keen all the time. Got to hang out on the tour bus in Asheville a couple years ago. Pretty interesting life.

I guess I am more country lite, which is just fine, since I never really liked the old twangy stuff. I took to Jimmy Buffet after college, and have spent so much time in Key West, I guess I like beach country.

We see Zac Brown every year and get cheap pit tix through the fan club. This year they aren't coming to Tampa, so we are heading to NO to see them in March.

My wife got some killer pit tix for Chris Stapleton last year. I knew maybe one or 2 songs before I saw him. I was blown away. That was a top 5 concert ever for me. That guy is very talented, and the entire scene was amazing. Sorry for the mag that had a different experience. Maybe it was the venue. We saw Mumford and Sons in the amphitheater in SLC, and it was just off. The crowd was the problem. We have seen them a bunch of times before, and there was just no energy in that place. No partying in the parking lot was my theory.

Also saw Sam Hunt last year because... my wife. He was actually damn good. Bro country maybe? He actually has written a lot of popular songs. Maren Morris was there too, so I had something to look at. That was actually a really fun concert with all the Agri Bros and their pink Browning wearing sorority girlfriends. Again, not quite the country you are talking about.

School me on GOOD country music

I’ve seen both Zac Brown and Keith Urban within the last year. Both killed it.

I see a lot of live shows. It’s amazing how many musicians, of all genres, live in Nashville.

John Oats just sold his ranch here, to move there.
