Cult Classics
There may already be a thread on this, but our worthless search feature didn't seem to turn up anything relevant. Anyway, last night on Netflix instant streaming, I watched Death Race 2000 with David Carradine. Crazy 70s movie and lots of fun. Yeah, I know. I'm like 40 years late on that one, but still.
What are some of your "cult classic" faves that some of us may have missed?

shaun of the dead is a classic for me... watch at least couple times a year. not sure it really qualifies as a cult classic but I am amazed how many people have not seen it.

Methinks you didn't get it. It was supposed to be campy and jingoistic.
My entry: Penelope Spheeris' Suburbia.

It's been mentioned already, but I've watched "Repo Man" about a half dozen times over the last two months (it's on rotation on one of the movie channels). Love that flick.

^^just saw Suburbia this year. co-worker loaned it to me.
definitely a cult classic.
also, not sure if I spewed it out in my previous posts, but Richard Linklater's debut: Slacker (I believe it's still streaming on NF). That movie rocks.
additionally, the definition of "Cult Classic" is a bit broad these days. There's some films listed here (and I've listed some of them, too), that kind of ride the line between being a mainstream/successful film and a cult film. I also think of cult films as being the ones that were shown at the drive-in back in the day or at the midnight movies at the local arthouse cinema. of course with the gradual decline of both drive-ins and art-house cinemas that's all changed.
in my mind Rocky Horror Picture show is the ultimate, lord-god-king of cult movies. that film was and has been the staple of late night/midnight movie screenings across the world for decades. probably the earliest form of "cosplay", too, if you think about it: how folks dressed up to attend the screenings, chanted the dialogue, sang the songs, etc.
Wikipedia has a nice breakdown of "inclusive definition" versus "exclusive definition" of cult films.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_film
they also talk about how certain films have gained cult status in certain communities (i.e. Wizard of Oz and Sound of Music within the gay community), which is an interesting look at how a film can be both classic and cult.
i found a few good lists when I Googled "Cult Classic Films". Again, the lists are pretty varied and include many films I wouldn't consider to be cult, but like i said, the definition has become pretty broad.

Also, considering that we're all probably either boarders or skiers, it's kind of a crying shame that it's taken this long to mention:
