Who is “The Most Interesting Man in the World?"

    Hey Guys,

I thought you might dig this write up that I did on the gentleman who just became the oldest person to summit Everest. Yeah, he’s the same guy who is “The Man Who Skied Down Everest.” It turns out that Yuichiro was the 1st to ski Everest, oldest to summit Everest, also summited at ages 70 and 75, has had 4 heart surgeries, and has an Oscar. Not bad.

Sounds more like the luckiest man in the world. He basically fell down Everest, barely skied it.

He skied down Everest and invented speed flying at the same time.

I remember that vid it always seemed to me right up there with Bender hucking off 100ft cliffs ... watch it and think this isn't going to end well

I always wondered why Miura didn't just make more turns instead of using the chute ?

As I remember his movie he went straight down the fall line, deployed a parachute to slow down but didn't because he forgot to account for the thin air at that altitude, then fell and slid for several thousand feet. Not what most of us would call "skiing." My distinct impression on leaving the movie was "more balls than brains." Possibly the luckiest man in the world, but probably not the most interesting or smartest mountaineer.

Before MRA, Mitsui Corporation held a ski lease for the proposed Hatcher Pass ski area. Yuichiro Miura was a representative of Mitsui. He came to hatcher to check it out. They chartered a helicopter to the top of Government Peak. The head of our local ski club also got to go. This was probably the first descent of that face of government. The run was subsequently named Nip in the Air.

"My hat is off to you Yuichiro. You have exposed the true human spirit and allowed it to soar wherever and however it likes. You can listen to everyone around you telling you what you can’t do, or you can be like Yuichiro and just do whatever the hell you want." Nice write-up. Thanks Gopher

In the beginning of the full movie of that they show him literally straight line Mt Fuji, and fucking grease it. He's got the skills, but those are diminished somewhat when you are over 25,000ft above the ocean.
