van camping in West Virginia? with bike and dog

I have never been to West Virginia. Any suggestions on campgrounds you like in the next few weeks? I will have a van (no tent) a dog and a hardtail. Will probably then go on into Virginia to Charlottesville and head down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Asheville.Any ideas are appreciated

I've camped at The Cove in Gore, VA, many times. It's right off Rte. 50 and literally a stone's throw from the W.VA line (like less than half a mile). Cool place, nice trails all around, ponds, shooting range, showers. They sell firewood but that's about it. You can fish without a license I believe. Double-check that. Dog-friendly, and htey have a few cabins if you're interested in that.

Otherwise there's a ton of national Forest land, I've camped a bunch of places but couldn't tell you the names of them.

Davis anywhere out camp 70 road for free, if you wanna pay and get a hot shower try the Rest Rite campground off the Blackwater Falls SP access road.

Make sure you stop and ride Douthat state park outside Clifton Forge. Phenomenal biking, easy camping on site. Some of the best singletrack in VA.

I've done a lot of pull off camping in WV with no problems.

Major upset, beating Irul to the incredibly predictable Deliverance joke.

Irul must be out for a smoke break or something.

Deliverance was set in TN anyways.

Dolly Sods is sort of neat-o, and not far from Davis.

Big Bear Lake, Coopers Rock SF, (and echo others Canaan Valley advice (Thomas/Davis)) are good to ride/camp at in a van.

Valley Falls SP is pretty good.

Also the Monongahela NF, although the trails can be tough to navigate w/o a guide.

Canaan Valley SP also has a campground, not 100% sure about pets there, plus there is loop road for camping. Let me know when if you are in the area and I can show you around some if I am there.

BTW Deliverance was set and filmed in Ga.

If you climb, Seneca Rocks is just wonderful. It ranks up there with 'Gunks for exceptional ec climbing.
