So sad to hear this. Was at the basin and hear the sirens screaming up the pass and felt like something bad happened. So bummed.

Starting to hear some things trickle in from friends. This one is going to hurt. People from all over the state involved it sounds like.
Goddamnit, can this week be over please? No more fucking tragedy.

It sounds like they were all experienced, had gear and training, and knew what they were doing. Those are the ones that scare me the most. Terrible news, RIP.

What a nightmare.
Low slope angle, hard slab, 500' wide, sliding on old snow and the ground, huge crown depth, likely triggered from below from a great distance. All of the bad.
Deep condolences to anyone connected with the accident or victims.

Rick taught me how to use ropes, tie knots, and climb. We talked about going riding up at RMNP, but my car broke down and I never got a chance to get back down his way. I'm really sad over his and the 4 other party members deaths. I'm also sad that now I'll never get a chance to ride with him. Rick was a great guy and one of the most decent people I've ever met in my backcountry experiences. I hope his family pulls through ok.
