    Yup, parked at Northgate.
Wanted to explore one of the lava flows west of the Northgate Chutes.
The snow didn't connect. Started to cloud up and the winds picked up to 30-40mph.
So, got a short run in.
    Really good snow.

Wow - nice work! Any special tips for making all of that happen in a short time window? Would love do to Lassen + Shasta on a 3 or 4 day weekend, coming up from the Bay Area - seems like you were very efficient!

It's 2.5 hours from Lassen to Shasta trailhead. You can easily get a camp spot on Friday night, ski Lassen on Saturday, drive to Shasta TH, camp in your car, wake up hella early, keep climbing until you feel like puking or the snow is getting soft (knowing that however soft it is under your feet, it will be 3x as soft/wet/sloppy at the bottom of the mountain, and then ski back to your car. Right now coverage at bottom of Devestated Area @ Lassen and coverage at Bunny Flat make this very easy.

Under 5 hours from San Jose to Lassen trailhead. You can get close to 4 if you have a radar detector and very few fucks left to give (especially with regard to deer and bears on the road at night, both of which I've had close calls with at Lassen). Of course, if you leave before 7 PM it's more like 7 hours to Lassen.

^^What Schralph said. You don't have to get up that early either, I left BF at 6 am and I summited around noon, perfect for upper mountain corn and lower mountain slop.

It looks like winter is back this week!! I'm going to find some wind buff. If anyone is around say hi, Im the white F350 with a Lance Cabover.

Anyone else plotting a Sunday/Monday Shasta trip? There's 3 feet of snow in the forecast for Saturday night, I'm hoping the conditions will line up to keep avalanche danger modest but there's always later in the week if not.

Awesome, Scralph - and Dheli - thanks! I've definitely had the puking feeling - my friend actually puked... - around 13k on Shasta and am hoping to get back this summer for a summit (third times a charm?). I appreciate the beta.

B - sick pics! Thanks for the stoke.

Any recent reports? How are things holding up? It looks like some hot weather is on the way to town, but the forecast I saw for the mountain had highs and lows both the same, in the 30's. Seems odd.

Considering whether to drive from CO.

Found snow just past the railroad tracks on the way in.
Thought I could make it up Road 42N71 in the morning.
The skinning started off good, but the road disappeared.
Should've skinned up the main road.
Got off track and ended up getting manzanited.
    Didn't continue on.

Yeah Harry - I've noticed the same thing for the last several days. The temp forecast may be the result of a small warm system that is expected to the north over the weekend.

thx for the photos Jib - wow, didn't expect snow level so low.

Went to Lassen to escape the sun cups down south at Sonora. We got lots of fun creamy corn skiing around Diller (spelling?). It wasn't freezing at night, but firmed up enough to be pretty fun, and the snow is holding well enough that it is mostly skiable back to the parking lot, with just a little bit if dirt skiing. Thanks to all the people in the parking lot for the tips and suggestions, I think my dad was pretty happy with his father's day trip. Click image for larger version.

good wknd on Shasta. It is now less than .75 miles to clear creek TH. A downed tree blocks the road and it probably needs 2-3 more weeks of snowmelt to open to the TH.

Continuous snow from the TH but not much longer with lots of debris and tree wells.

We spent 2 nights at about 8,100 in the trees.

Saturday was windy, but lower slopes were good. There is a lot of blown dirt/dust on the lower clear creek route.
