First day riding to work last week, 2 miles in, I'm stopped at a light next to a giant truck, raised F350 or similar. Not the kind somebody actually uses for work, rather the kind some fucktard with too much $$ decks out to impress twats at the mall. Dude glances at me and reverts to looking at his phone. The light turns green and I take off across the intersection in front of the truck. That was apparently a mortal offense to slowpoke's ego and he immediately laid on the horn and gunned it after me. I was already as far to the side as I could but he felt the need to squeeze me against the sidewalk. I saw myself go under the truck, pretended to be on my mountain bike, and hopped sideways on the sidewalk right as the back wheel of the truck rubbed against it. I made it but one foot came unclipped on landing and I slammed my leg in the crank arm HARD. Had to sit there for a minute to let the pain and fear pass. I have a deep bruise on the outside of my ankle, couldn't even get my foot in a ski boot Sat.
If I ever see that truck again it will result in 4 slashed tires and bricks through every glass surface. Possibly new bodywork too.

Just scrolling through Next Door and there are four posts on some variation of "the roads are for cars people" then a stew of comments with frustrations with bikers/walkers "ain't gonna be my fault if I hit one them". We are doomed as a species. Or the "we were out on a drive on Easter and noticed people out exercising - stay at home people!"

You're right, it would only lead to my life getting ruined. Dude sure wouldn't have gone to jail for destruction of life or limb, he'd have driven away happily and felt perfectly justified in smashing a biker. There was traffic behind him, people saw it happen, nobody stopped by to see if the guy who almost got smashed against a truck was OK as he was sitting on the sidewalk shaking like a leaf.
That's why I quit road biking and got back on the mountain bike a couple of years ago. I love cruising around on pavement but I don't have enough eyes in the back and sides of my head to keep an eye on all the fucktards...

Website created for and entirely populated by Karens. I joined a few years ago to offer random yard supplies for free (grass seeds, fertilizer, fence posts, etc...) and keep an eye on offering of free dirt to fill garden beds. People who contacted me complained that the grass seeds were old, the fence posts too short, and the fertilizer too toxic. The dirt I went to pick up was 50% gravel and glass mixed with what appeared to be sand? The lady screamed at me when I told her I was going to pass and demanded I get out of her driveway where I had backed up to load the dirt.
Joined again when I moved in with Ms Boissal, figured a different neighborhood might behave better. It was worse. Neighbors at war with each other gathering factions of supporters, racist posts reporting the 1 black or hispanic person living on the block as suspicious over and over, threats to people who let their kittehs outside then mockeries when said kitteh went missing (with explicit hopes that the cat has died and promises to "take care of it" if spotted), mentions of reporting people to the city for not cutting their grass, people proudly claiming that they had their neighbor's car towed for parking in front of their house... The guy who lives across the street from us posted repeatedly about a corner of our front yard which was covered in weed block for a summer. It was not the most pleasant thing to look at but we removed a ton of weeds and had no immediate plans with the area so we covered it as cleanly as possible until we could deal with it. We're going to plant giant corn there this year, I'm sure it will piss him off one way or another.

Oh, it's hilarious. Very entertaining to see all the busy-body HOA type queens rant about this or that and witness the responses. I REALLY want to make an alias on there (if that's possible) so I can start trolling all the Karens on there.
ESPECIALLY these days with all the stuff going on, Karen's angrier than ever. ...and likely even easier to troll.

Hit-and-run is actually the best possible outcome. That's considered an aggravating factor and he *might* actually go to jail or suffer non-trivial legal consequences if he gets caught. If he stays at the scene, calls 911 to tell them they need to come scrape your lifeless corpse off the pavement, and acts sorry about it he'll probably walk scot-free. At most, he might get a citation for failure to yield or a misdemeanor careless driving charge.

Oooof.
Ms Boissal works at the hospital about 3 minutes from where it would have happened. If dude hadn't killed me she'd have definitely finished me off, she's warned me that if ever get rolled into the trauma bay my injuries would be the last of my concerns...
Years ago I watched an old guy T-bone a biker who had the right-of-way at an intersection. He never saw him and hit him going 30 ish mph. Biker flew off into the sidewalk and degloved a hand. I called 911 and waited with him and the driver who was completely mortified. The biker was a surgeon at a nearby hospital and didn't appear too worried about his injury. While waiting for the ambulance he talked the driver off the ledge, the old guy was decomposing in front of us thinking he was going to get the death penalty. The cops showed up, took a report of the incident, surgeon said he didn't want to press charges as old guy wasn't on the phone or doing anything egregious. The ambulance left and the old guy asked the cop what would happen next. The cop just laughed, told him to go home, and basically said that would be the last time he'd hear about the incident.
It took me a minute to retrieve my jaw from the floor.

So what's the story on "Karen." Never heard that term before this thread. Is that some kind of TGR meme that I missed, or does it have wider usage?

Sounds about right. About a year ago a woman killed a father of 3 near Hill AFB. It was night, but he was with three other people all lit up like Xmas trees and riding well into the shoulder. No charges. The last page of the "Fucking Cyclists" thread has links to multiple similar stories.
Want to legally murder someone in America? Run them over with your car while sober and not texting, stay at the scene, and act really sorry. Statistically you're almost guaranteed to walk.

I remember that Hill AF story and the subsequent legal debacle. That's around the time I put my road bike away and didn't touch it for a couple of years. I'd rather eat shit in a patch of scrub oak and get all torn up by rocks and dirt than end up on the hood of a minivan.
