The fucking FIS freestyle/freeskiing events logo that has the ski tips upside down. Seriously, in what perspective are the ski tips still pointed up when the skier is inverted? I watch a lot of moguls and park events and every time this thing is like nails on a chalkboard to me.

agree with the blood sucking leeches part but the only reason they can get away with it is because insurers will pay for it--if it works--rather than pay the lifetime costs of caring for a hemophiliac. But hey, this will all keep happening until we elect a "socialist" president and a few hundred "socialist" Congressmen. Or better yet, let's elect some real socialists and nationalize the drug companies, let the government make the drugs. It already pays for most of the research.

I'm not defending "big" pharma because I too think there's a better way. But there's some issues with your statement (mind you, you're the messenger, and I share your issues too, so this isn't at you per se):

    1) This is legal in other developed countries, the biggest pharma company in the world is French.
    2) How much money, time and resources were put into bringing this therapy to market? How much money, time and resources were put into bringing the hundreds if not thousands of others that didn't make it through phase 1, much less phase 3 and FDA approval?
    3) Who should bear the brunt of the costs of the foregoing? Who should benefit from the one drug that does make it through? How much should they benefit, and who should make that determination? If they shouldn't benefit, who should pay for the foregoing - failures and the success?

Again, I'm not dogging you man, it's just that yelling at the giant boogeyman annoys me in that it doesn't advance the conversation. Do we federalize drug research and development in its entirety? Is that fair, given that US firms invent 57% of new chemical entities (according to 2009 Harvard study)?

I know - another thread. It's just all annoying to me .

I guess I’m coming from the “it sucks to be you if you are poor” POV.
Here, if you are broke or likely bankrupt because of your condition, you basically fade off and die.
Yes, some HC is subsidized, but I wouldn’t think this wonder drug would be eligible.
The biggest pharma company may be French, but that’s not how French health law works. (No, I am not French or a lawyer, but I had great medical care in France)
I just want some semblance of a society here. Is that asking too much?

Well that's annoying. We don't give our pharma companies enough money obviously. Let's step it up, people.

    Straight trash right there. Good.

I've posted at length here a long time ago about it, but I've had a very front row seat to a lot of angles on the opioid crisis in my beloved former home state and it's all annoying to me. Everything from the initial overreaction, throwing the baby out with the bathwater by stripping good docs of their licenses (mostly anesthesiologists and board certified pain management docs), to the new-found ways to absolutely piss away the opioid settlement money on bureaucracy and "new" job salaries that in no fucking way address the heroin problem the state exacerbated by the foregoing overreaction.

We're officially in the weeds now, happy to discuss in another thread.

I hear you, it does suck if you can't pay here. And that's one of many issues that are going to have to be addressed, as complex and dirty as they may be. Don't get it twisted though, drug approval and R&D is completely unrelated to personal heathcare, both here an in France, and the business practices in place regarding the costs, time, effort, and expense of bringing an immensely complex drug therapy to market are global, and we all pay for that cost.

If they chip in to fix the FIS Freestyle Skiing logo I'll put in a good word for them to get a little more scratch from the kitty come budget time. Deal?

That's hilarious! What kind of nitwit designed that logo? This is exactly the kind of thing that would infuriate me, too.

Right. But it seems like more of the cost gets shifted to the American market.

    Yes this is stupid, but

DPS skis annoy me. I’m looking for some newish used skis. I see them all over Facebook market, Craigslist, etc... for north of $1000!!!

WTF? Do those things give you a blowjob on the skin track or something? Do they actually levitate uphill so you get more laps? Make you twice as good a skier as on ordinary skis?

Or are they just a form of bro bra tax?

    What gives?

    8' long? That's cold.

Boss rolls in the office today and decides to take us all to lunch. All being a total of 4 people. Waffling about the location ensues and he picks a chicken place. Why not, I've never been there. We get there and he orders 50 chicken fingers. They bring us a basket of at least 5 lbs of courtesy fries and one of my coworkers announces she's not super hungry. By the time the chicken is on the table she's full and we have 50 chicken fingers to share between 3 of us. Now I'm comatose at the office, I reek of greasy chicken, I feel like sack of shit, and I have a conference call at 4:30 that I'm likely to miss since it's unlikely I'll wake up on time...

50 chicken fingers? Is your boss 8?

That would be annoying, but it amused me.

What was the final score among the eaters? Tell me you went big and put back at least 20.

There was no counting but I can safely say I crushed the chicken hard. Based on the shape of my belly right now 20 isn't unlikely.
There's something about UT people and all-you-can-eat places that eludes me but every time he takes us to lunch it's a low end high volume type place.

It's a cultural side effect of the prevalence of LDS families, or at least that was the theory I developed during my 5 years living there. And it's truly a part of the state culture at this point, not just the church. Same with everyone looking at you sideways if you aren't married with a bun in the oven by the time you're 25.

When you have 12 kids to feed on one income because a woman's place is in the home, you really start doing the calories/$ math.

That's not completely false - but for most pharma - the biggest share of the P&L [profit/loss] statement is taken NOT BY R&D, but by marketing activities.

    See; https://www.google.com/search?q=does...ing+than+r%26d

Kind of hard to defend the "Oh, but we spend so much bringing drugs to market..." schtick when they spend more on marketing.

It all reminds me of the record labels and the movie studios, and their sleezy accounting practices and the unfettered 'We'll rip off anyone we can, we are totally shameless."

    Greed, unchecked greed.

Seriously. WTF kind of lunch is chicken fingers for adults? I can see it as an appetizer, but that's the lunch?

Although gotta say I'm constantly amazed at how many people are buying fried shit like that in my office cafeteria. No wonder there are so many fat fucks in this country.

Ordered QK inserts last week with the projected arrival being yesterday.
Was planning on skiing today and I just got an update they're in fucking Pittsburg.

Ultimately my fault for pulling the bindings before they got here. Regardless...DA FUCK!?

Is a shipping refund possible? This has never happened to me before.

    I feel so....used.
