I ordered a book through Walmart since it was a few bucks cheaper than other sites. When I got my shipping info I see that it's shipping from China. So, in trying to save a few bucks, my $13 book has a massive carbon footprint.

I hate Walmart's site. It's like Amazon marketplace only worse in terms of who is actually selling you the crap. I always use the filters and check out the actual seller. You can filter for Walmart as fulfillment. The item might still come from China but at least it didn't get shipped special just for you.

^ Didn’t pay enough attention to the filters I guess.

I’ve cut way back on online shopping, probably only get things online < 10 x a year the last 2-3 years actually.

Ironically, the book I ordered is a heath book recommended by my doc. Last I checked it was in Wuhan.

It's stuff like this drives me absolutely MAD about literally every corporation's faux environmentalist platitudes. And it's always THE worst offenders acting like they truly care. Hard eyeroll:

    Walmart - Sustainability - Planet

    Amazon - Driving Climate Solutions

Ehh. That cargo plane is going to fly anyway so the more small packages that are on it the smaller the impact of each package is. Might as well fill the fucker.

Buy a Kindle. You'll never want to read a print book again.

    Is it though?

I'd assume products bought in bulk by retailers are almost always going by boat, whereas individual orders bought overseas by the end user are going by plane.

A lot of times now small to medium size companies will bring in an air freight container. There's no reason to have thousands of something aging on warehouse shelves, even if the cost is xx% higher quicker turns will be more profitable. It's also instant as opposed to 30-90 days on a boat and air freight gets closer to its final destination and doesn't need to be insured for x-country ground transpo.

My mom and stepdad live a few states away from any of us kids and are on the steep part of their decline. After a lifetime of giving ungodly sums to their church guess who is nowhere to be seen? I can easily enough rationalize religion for its social structure of inclusiveness and community support. But if that isn’t there I have a pretty hard time not hewing toward a more antagonistic stance.
    focus.

I read 4 of the GOT books on my iPhone at work, it wasn't even one of the big screen ones.

That's not too bad for a sit down meal for two in an airport. Especially with some super chefs name on the place. It's funny sometimes when a top chef puts their name on a restaurant and the food sucks. My wife bought a bag of Rachel Ray cat food because it was on sale and the cat won't go anywhere near the stuff.

It's annoying when you wake up at 4am to go out and see if the Northern Lights are visible (they weren't ) then can't fall asleep again and the coffee maker craps out.

This is equal parts amuses me and annoys me. Jane's addiction reunion tour canceled due to Perry being a bit crazy. He started a fight with Dave Navarro onstage in Boston and the band said he's been acting like a dick and basically can't tour with him.

I saw them back in 2013 and while they sounded great, it was a bit of a going-through-the-motions set and I mentioned to my wife, I bet this is it for them. I was surprised to see they had even gotten back together when news of the on-stage meltdown appeared over the weekend.

Hat tip to whoever over in Music, Books, Movies said that they should patch things up and get ready to open for Oasis this fall. See who can hold it together longer.

Liam Gallagher and Perry Farrell should just switch places. Win-win.
