Pine pollen season. The pollen doesn't bother me. My wife going nuts with the leaf blower blowing the stuff off the deck every other day does.

We did this for something like 8 straight years. Better every time. Something about it is so incredibly relaxing. Nowhere to go, nothing else to do, just ride for 3 or 4 days, and then camp in luxury each night. Jealous of ya Danno.

Though one year 12 out of 15 people got food poisoning. One was pregnant (my wife). Her and several others ended up in the hospital on an IV for a bit. Doctors wanted to know which restaurant we ate at so they could avoid it - apparently that is/was fairly common in Moab.

Regardless, that part was annoying (to stay within the theme of the thread.)

We never go to Moab, so we're safe from food poisoning.

Beece, did you go with your kids? We're considering making this year a kiddo trip, in part because finding someone to watch her for 4 nights is tough, but not sure.

Food poisoning was from rotten vegetables in a cooler day three at (I think) Airport campground. Mixed with meat. Avoid. I essentially sprinted out of there to get another vehicle to haul people out to the hospital. Shaffer road climb SUCKED, hammering as hard as I could.

We took kids when they were little - I think there were several kids aged 3-5 one year in particular. They rode their bikes here and there, then rode in the trucks a lot (2 trucks for 15 people.) They had a great time. Thankfully, no kids on food poisoning trip. It works well cause you can bring them anything they want, both from a toy and food perspective.

Our kids went on many fruita/moab mtn bike trips with us between ages 0-6 and it always worked really well -especially once they slept through the night and didn't wake up neighboring tents. Make sure they run around a good bit so they don't get hyper and bored. Lots of little side canyons on white rim to stop and explore on foot if the car is moving faster than the bikes.

I read about this in our local paper a couple weeks ago - did you see that they've actually known about those barrels being there since last August? Have they confirmed they contain the chemical? Maybe they have dead bodies in them (just sayin').

Barrels of 2,4-D, if they that is indeed what they are, shouldn't have been tossed there but the herbicide is common and used worldwide for control of broadleaf weeds in crops. I use it on my farm.

This. My cheap TCI TV doesn't even allow you to cycle around the keyboard, it's too dumb. If you have to type Q then P you're guaranteed to get thumb tendinitis clicking your way across the keyboard...
My network password used to be GiveMeInternetNow which was easy enough to remember but took a solid half hour to input. QWERTY became a lot more appealing once I got that TV.

Try rinsing in a diluted vinegar/water solution. Can extend the fridge life of those delicate fruits.

Yankee fans. 2 sluggers hurt as well as their top pitcher and numerous others and they are still in 1st place. Yet if you listen to talk radio around here, all you hear is Yankee fans calling in bitching about something. We haven't won a WS in 10 years, we need to get Mike Trout, blah blah blah.

Then they act like they're superior because the team they root for is better than the team you root for. WTF? Be a Met fan and you'll have something to bitch about.

when I'm in Sacto I get mine from the same Hmong sellers at the Sunday farmers' market. They're really ripe so we have to eat them within a few days. It helps to store them in a sealed container with paper towel above and below.

From My Columbia Basin FB page:

This story has been updated as late Friday afternoon, Oregon Department of Environmental Quality said drums labeled "2,4-D or 2,4,5-T" might contain one or the other herbicides, not both, and NOT "Agent Orange."

An EPA contractor used side scan sonar Thursday to map the lake bottom in the area around the drums. Significant logistical challenges were identified as the water is deep, cold, and at high elevation (4,372 feet).

    ************************************************** ***************************

Edit - and another update (I was wondering if they had been used as floats/anchors. Don't know why you would dump that chemical as it's expensive and usable):

DEQ, EPA complete survey of drums at bottom of Wallowa Lake, removal to begin today
    June 16, 2019 2:49 pm

JOSEPH, Oregon – The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality said as of Saturday, both the DEQ and EPA had completed the survey of the area of drums labeled as herbicide sitting on the bottom of Wallowa Lake.

The drums were identified by two divers last summer.

According to Laura Gleim, DEQ Public Affairs Specialist, a remotely operated vehicle and contract divers have found 68 drums. Responders have found no 100-gallon drums but have found two floats made of two 55-gallon drums welded together.

“One drum with a label “2,4-D or 2,4-5-T” has been found to-date. It is not intact and appears to be filled with water,” Gleim said in a press release. “Divers are continuing to conduct visual and tactile inspections of the drums.”

Gleim added that depending on safety conditions, EPA will remove drums that are intact, and, out of an abundance of caution, will also remove drums that are not intact but have labels indicating they once contained hazardous substances.

“Again, responders have found one drum-to-date with a herbicide label, and that drum is not intact and appears to be filled with water,” Gleim explained.

Gleim also said in the press release that drum removal was expected to begin today.

DEQ and EPA also took samples of lake water and lake sediment Saturday.
