Pretty much any email from a ski area or pass vendor that doesn’t specifically address the current conditions.

Shit that annoys me at times are QR codes on every menu.

I get it for printing cost savings and having to wipe down a menu from children spittle, but I don't really like carrying my phone with me when I go out to a restaurant, just give me the paper menu and I'll be happy. [Luddite out]

Employers using antiquated technology for job applications.

No, I’m not going to provide you with a nicely formatted resume and then type all of that information into your little text boxes.

You are showing me that your company does not value efficiency and time management. Goodbye.

Sure. But as a software guy, if you want to use 2007 era software to attract talent, you’re not going to succeed very well. Says too much about the organization and it’s lack of solution forward products.

Grocery store Sushi. It has become a game of them seeing just how incredibly thin and meagre-ly they can slice the fish before customers say this is bullshit.

I'm not defending this crap. It's annoying and seemingly irrelevant. I was job searching months ago and ended up ignoring anyone who went with this approach. (maybe it worked for them?!)

Hiring systems and job requirements pre-2020 were designed to weed out the chaff by being intentionally difficult or choosy so as to winnow the pool.

Not surprised that some HRs haven’t figured out that if they want to hire people they should make it easier. It’s sort of the equivalent of the business that posts some semi-nasty job job requiring “no whining”, “pride in your job,” or whatever other bullshit they thing their staff should deal with. Smart job seekers are using it as a screen to avoid bad companies.

This more or less. Our HR system (govt) uses that confounded ‘questionnaire’ that copies the resume/CV. It sucks but HR always think they are Dog’s gift and are slow to adapt to new tools and hiring situations.

Seeing as any other sushi outing here is gonna run a few hundred, I'll occasionally get my fix from Albies or Whole Grocer. Or roll our own.

Not sure where you live, but I definitely have my cheap $20 sushi takeout spot and my $1-200 sushi spot here. That’s the only way I can keep it reasonable.

I’ve done grocery sushi before but never had good experiences. It’s the rice, not the fish, that gets me.

I had some excellent $32/person all you can eat sushi in LV the other day. Although the menu was a QR code on the opposite corner of the table from me, which I had to keep rescanning because of my fucked up ad-ridden QR scanner and the fucked up menu--I gave up and let my kid order. I don't know shit about sushi anyway.
Costco near us in Sacramento has some decent sushi.

The rice at the Allbies is actually excellent when you hit it right. The Sushi people are from Burma, of all places. If you wonder where I live, think of the absolutely most expensive tourist place/ski town you can think of.
Ain’t no ‘cheap’ takeout Sushi here, really.
    Except the grocery store.

Serious question: what if you don't have a phone? Will they not take your order? /don'tgetaroundmuchanymore

The last job interview I had was a couple years ago, right before covid. I made it to the in-person round. I sat at the end of a long conference table of high ranking dept heads at least a dozen stories up. They knew my credentials, but couldn't believe that I really wanted the job. When I convinced them why, all they could ask was how I could manage, sort, organize, and track all of my work by myself.

I told them that I wrote the software myself, flipped my laptop around, showed my workflow while they all crouched over and looked at my screens partitioned, including my interview notes and progress notes as it was going.

I asked them about certain legal normative positions they held- they deferred to oblique answers. Then I asked if they had anything else for me because I had a long drive home.

They never even bothered to call back, or e-mail. Then a buddy of mine became the head AG, no shit, we actually started an entire law review together from the seed. I never did apply again. I think that is the last time I actually saw Danno. We may have gone for a beer afterwards. I didn't track that. The whole point of that job was so that I could be free to just think and write, and not track shit. I guess that backfired, and thus TRG is stuck with me.
