In this internet age of people just shopping by the lowest bidder, it's no wonder they have to do these things if they're going to have a shot of turning a profit. They just all want to show up first in the search results* (* baggage, extra fees, and taxes not included) It's a sad truth, but if somebody would simply bake everything into the price, improve customer service, and the all around experience, well, they'd probably go bankrupt as many nice now-defunct carriers already have. It's a damn shame the state of the airline industry. Wish we could back to the glory days of jet travel a la Pan Am...minus the cigarette smoking. I don't think any of us miss that.
I flew Cathay Pacific from NY to Vancouver last year (and will most likely do it again this year). One advertised price... includes 2 checked bags and even a hot meal. I felt like I was flying in the 90’s (or any decade earlier). Oh yeah, and the flight attendant service was good too.

And the fare was the same as Air Canada’s after 1st/2nd bag fees ($25/$35) and reserved seat fees ($20/seat!).
Because rich has nothing to do with money.

I think the problem is your cable company. It's an hour here in the civilized world. Probably not that many people watching the failing pbs fake news in eastern WA.

It's not so much that the airlines want it to be a shitty experience. It's that people have shown that they view air travel purely as a commodity and are only willing to pay for it as such. Ergo, the shitty customer service, lack of food and any other gripe you have now, is what we get. You want more? You have to pay for it.

In the end, the airlines are there to make money, not make it a pleasurable experience for us. That goes for any airline, not just the US-based carriers.

The lady down the street says our outside light (60w equivalent) is killing birds and keeping her up at night.

She seems to have no problem with the streetlight directly outside her house.

People that leave their outside light on at night while they are sleeping. Get a motion sensor

It is a motion sensor, and it is installed in accordance with all bylaws and codes. I know this because she has called bylaw enforcement about the light.

I'm tempted to just leave it on 24/7 to spite her.

We have a movie theater popcorn maker at work.

They are taking it away because someone doesn't like the smell of popcorn.

That's the plan. We are going to buy costco size and have it free for the taking.

The problem is usually the opposite--people with popcorn at work who won't share. I believe it is an OSHA regulation that you have to share your popcorn with anyone who can smell it.

Yeah. The popcorn goes fast once it's made, but it's for everyone.

A few whiners want to ruin it for all the rest.

Microwave a delicious bass for lunch. Over-cook it, ‘cause you want it “done”.

Please tell me you aren't comparing the trauma of being forced to smell popcorn at work with having nude pictures posted online without permission...

Smells wise, seems most everybody is ok with popcorn.
It's the butter flavored stuff, that smells like robots shit, that pisses peeps off.
We were lucky enough to work where they did coffee cupping&tasting, so microwave popcorn was banned.

It's not microwave popcorn unless they take away the popper. It's movie popcorn with fake butter by the jug. It is made from coconut oil tho.
