You don’t have a cell phone? A window and eyeballs? Why is this necessary? Is it normal in other places? Because it doesn’t feel normal here.
You just defined my old man.

He comes to pick me up for anything, no matter what time, and he’s blasting the horn before he hits the driveway.

    Drives me crazy.

Used to have a neighbor that was a catastrophic lush, I'd see him hammered at all hours of the day stumbling around the yard. He was part of a crew of contractors and they'd come pick him up whenever there was work for him. Dudes would pull up in a truck, idle and lay on the horn until he came out. Sometimes it would take over 15 minutes and never once did I see anyone go to the house to knock. He'd eventually stumble out and hop in the truck to go to work. He must have been really good at his craft for anyone to bother putting up with his bullshit...

Woah, he came out of the house ready to go to work after 15 minutes of honking? He was probably the foreman of that crew. That sort of prompt professionalism is rare in the construction industry. By now, he's probably making 6 figures to sit in a job trailer watching porn and sneaking vodka into his Monster.

the new state farm featuring "jake" commericals.

i will grant the the new jake, who is black; looks better and has a better presence on the commercials than the previous white jake and i do not even have an issue also calling him jake and using him as jake in the new state farm commercials, but putting him in the old jake commercial and editing white jake out ? no one really swore off state farm because there was not a black guy in that commercial.

Does black State Farm Jake wear khakis?

If so isn’t that white culture appropriation?

Commercial content these days is another sign of inequality in our society. A lot of advertisers could care less about the bottom 80% of Americans, because they have no money. That's why you see so many interracial couples and gay couples in ads these days. They're marketing to the upper class in the cities and nice burbs who have some disposable income to waste on their product.

    As Willy Sutton said . . .

Maybe it's a sign of the shows I watch but it seems like all the ads are for overpriced drugs with really weird names

Right? I only see them now when I seek them out via the Cannes list, and maybe the superbowl.

    Shit that annoys you

Breakfast places that ruin a perfectly good eggs Benedict by using ham instead of Canadian bacon.

That's a lot of places. I'm probably in the minority here, but I'll add deep frying the potatoes instead of roasting them.

    Sauteing's ok, but you're right - deep frying's a mortal sin.

I’m (trying to be) on a kick of grilled or tempura shishito peppers, but none of the local grocery stores have carried them for weeks.

My iPad quit charging. It’s charging about 3%/day, I guess that means it’s toast.

Was working fine. I think there was an update involved. And snap. It decides not to work.

Went and saw the local Apple guy and said they plan it that way.

    That shit annoys me.

Brand new XT cassette, well packaged. The box looked like it had met Edward Norton in American History X...
Got a whole drivetrain from a website in the UK. They're telling me they can't be held responsible for what happens once the package is handed to USPS in the US. USPS isn't even bothering to tell me to fuck off, they have other fish to fry right now...

At least I looked at the cassette before removing the old one, the derailleur, the chain, the shifter, the cable & housing, the driver on the hub, etc...

Ooof, that sucks. Of course, with 51 teeth on that cassette it *might* still work fine. Worth x-posting to the "Ask the Experts" thread.

If I broke a tooth riding it I'd definitely keep going with it unless there were obvious issues. But installing a brand new drivetrain and slapping in a cassette with a missing tooth just rubs me the wrong way. Still not sure what to do about it... Hopefully I can work something out with the website that sold it to me...
