Haha. I do get it's intentions! And I really have no problem with the straw thing anyway. Personally I never want a straw, so yeah, a total waste and don't want that garbage in our oceans either. I just find it hilarious in an ironic sort of way. And furthermore, in a great example of unintended consequences, whereas they were simply trying to curb the spread of HIV, in these needle "exchange" locations where the addicts tend to congregate, NOW they're dealing with massive amounts of Hepatitis A floating around like never before. They didn't use a fat fuck in the ad, which is weird, because it would be entirely appropriate, and they're using more and more fat people in ads because, well, everyone is so fat. Then there's the loser who orders fucking Taco Bell delivery, and smiles about it. You slob. You can't get up out of your stinky Lazy Boy and drive a few blocks to the Taco Bell window? You know, fresh air and all that. It's disgusting.
Given that most of the people who order Taco Bell delivered are stoned out of their heads I think Grubhub is a pretty good idea. Also when you're stoned out of your head on oxycodone. And do you mean to tell me you never had a pizza delivered? They were delivering pizza and chinese before I was born, and that was a long fucking time ago. If you're really against food delivery you should have spoken up a long time ago.

I can honestly say that I haven't personally called and ordered a delivery pizza since college. And that was a long fucking time ago.

    Damn junkies.
Paying the public health bill when someone turns up with AIDS, Hep-C and a lot of other diseases is _REALLY_ expensive. It's a damn sight cheaper to pay for clean needles. Even if the "save" rate is really low, you can pay for a LOT of needles for the 65K+ it will take to cure Hep-C [or worse the Liver transplant and maintenance.]

You may not love needle exchange programs, but they are a lot cheaper than the alternative. [Assuming you're not of the mind to simply let them die. But lets not go there, ok? That's an even more charged argument.]

You're missing the point. I'm not arguing the merits of the needle exchange. I'm laughing at the fact that in some places it's almost easier to get a needle to shoot up your drug of choice (and in broad daylight if you're so inclined) than it is to do a good many normal things, ie get straws, buy a normal flow toilet, get a regular showerhead, or even Happy Meals (not kidding). Seriously, look up all the silly things SF has banned or attempted to. It's hilarious! They're working on vape products now too. But shoot up all ya want, bro!

You have to look at the damage done.
    And numbers involved.
    *And the motivation.*
    (Road to hell paved...)
Saving planet earth vs add a few more hundred to your companies million$$ portfolio.

How many junkies vs how many kids wants smoothie?

All your *normal things* are pretty recent. So not normal for most of human existence.
    Maybe.
Digging your comfortable rut, and "laughing while Rome burns" seems to be your attitude.

I haven't seen a "normal" flow toilet in years but ~6 gpf? Fuck that. I'm on a well and don't like to waste water but if I was on city water I sure wouldn't want to pay for that.

The irony of a “shit that annoys you” thread devolving into a low flow toilet rant.

    Brilliant!

They should have a deposit on syringes somehow so the junkies would bring them back instead of leaving them lying around.

Ya until you go to the beach and get one stuck in your goddamn foot. Or have to keep your kids out of the newly built playground because the fucking assholes won't take their gear with them. Easy enough to stop the needle problem though, just stop handing out narcan. Problem solved

I always thought this was hyperbole until I got to Seattle. It's a sad fucking mess, and there is no doubt the sanctimonious enabling is making it worse. It annoys me when I get emails from my daughter's school asking me to talk to them about needles on the playground yet again.

My employer gave me a letter of intent, inviting me back to teach for another year. The first 3 words of the letter were "We are sorry to inform you....." I almost had a goddamn heart attack after reading that. Why the fuck would you start a letter that way unless you're firing me?

Turns out our union hasn't agreed on a new contract yet so the rest of the sentence read ".....we have yet to agree on a contract yet but...." Scariest 7-10 seconds I can remember.

Jesus fuck, who is editing these things.

You get the gold star for not being very self aware.
    Low flow showerheads and toilets?
Ah, can I "remind" you about social cost?

While I don't agree with all the things government does to help us be more responsible - the intent is to lower the social cost of bad decisions. Using 20gal a minute for your shower is a miserable waste of water. In an effort to conserve water, they limit the showerhead flow. Pretty much all the kinds of rules you're complaining about follow that same rule-set. So, they're all pretty much the same as the needle exchange program you're *not* complaining about. Heh.

    It's hilarious!
You keep using that word! I do not think it means what you think it means.

$1k plumbing bill because we forgot to disconnect a hose soon enough over the winter. Annoyed that I forgot but also annoyed at faucet design because WTF should it only drain when a hose isn’t attached.
