It's a universal law of dog ownership that your dog is always friendly and never aggressive, and any time there is a negative interaction, it is always the fault of the other dog/human. 100% of the time. For both of you.

I spent a lot of time (probably 20 hours or more) with a dog behaviorist watching dogs interact (both recordings and live interactions with our dogs) while working on our extremely reactive shepherd mix. After all that time I was probably only right when trying to identify who the aggressor was 2/3rds of the time - she would point out the smallest behaviors (imperceptible snarls, locked shoulders, aggressive boops, etc) that I was largely unaware of. A lot of dogs can be total dicks, and many of those are smart enough to get away with it without raising the awareness of their humans.

My dog loves to play with other dogs on the trail, but I'm not sure he knows how to do it without acting like an aggressive dick. So I always warn people when they tell me to let him play with their dog. He's never bitten another dog and it always ends well, but it ALWAYS starts out kind of tense. 99.9% of the time, off-leash dogs figure it out.

4 years ago because my roommates dog was behind me begging for the bacon I was frying. I had no idea she was there when I lifted the pan and stepped back.

Young and dumb and I did not see anyone for it. I have a small scar where the red and blister meet closest to my wrist but it's not noticeable. People are more likely catch the small scar on my chin when I lost the front wheel of my bike on asphalt halfway to a party. I showed up too drunk to notice you could see down to the bone. I didn't know at the time to ask for a plastic surgeon to place the stitches, that is still annoying

Fair enough. My dog is a massive (150 pound) leonberger who loves to play. He certainly could learn to be a little less enthusiastic. I really just wish all parties could be rational about dog interactions.
