Maybe. I’ve experienced lagging internet (non trg) and after a speed test other sites are blazing fast. For a while.

While we’re on bandwidth. Anyone else pissed off about 5G?
4G was enough. Now with 5g my calls drop out everywhere. Even sitting in the same place.
    Kill all the telemarkers
But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers
    Telemarketers! Kill the telemarketers!
Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason

I provide corporate internet. We do not do this - it would be a pain in the ass to implement. Thus, I am inclined to not believe this conspiracy theory.

I get around 300 Mbps on speed tests, but if I download a file, it comes in at like 2 Mbps every time even for things like Zoom call recordings which should have plenty of upstream bandwidth

Yeah, my wife almost always gets a "low bandwith" warning when she logs onto Zoom even though speed tests indicate we should have 10x the bandwidth needed for video streaming.

It's because you are thinking about something you have to do/worry about later. Keep a notepad and pen by your bed, and write it down to get done later. Your brain will (usually) move on and you will get back to sleep.

Peopel who leave online meetings for "bio break," or other washroom reasons. Just say I'll be right back (or nothing at all), I don't need to imagine these people pissing and/or shitting.

Well, at least they didn't bring a device into the bathroom and leave the camera on...

$299 fee for an electrician to replace an outlet at our house (currently rented to my cousin and I'm not in town), but he wouldn't replace a pull-chain utility light fixture because he didn't have one with him, said it would be another $299 for him to come back...even though I told the dispatcher that it needed to be done when I scheduled the visit and there's a hardware store 10 blocks away.

Dang. That's highway robbery for such a simple job! Don't let those fools come back for an extra 300 bones since you told them beforehand. That's their mistake. At least fight 'em on it and if they don't concede, then find another electrician. These guys are CLEARLY ripping you off. I had a similar issue with a plumbing company. I told them the 3 small jobs I wanted knocked out while their guy was here. And yup. He needed to go back out for the extra valves. Said that dispatch never told him. They tried tacking on the hours for his time out but I got them to end up not charging extra. Not our fault their dispatch sucks.

I'm sure service companies play that game all the time and hope customers won't notice or care. At a previous company we had a urinal in the bathroom that wouldn't stop running. Called a plumbing company we work with, who told me they it would be 2-3 days before they could make it out. I got a call a couple hours later saying actually, we've got a guy down the street who finished early. Can he stop by right now? Sure! When he gave me the bill, it had an extra $100 charge for emergency service. I wrote them a check for the full amount and attached a letter describing the call from them and saying if that's how they do business we won't be using them anymore for office plumbing...or our high rise condo developments (multi million $ contracts). They sent the check back with an apology and said that one's on them.

My kid has a house in Sac he rents out. The management company hired an electrician to change a light bulb--$200.

yep, there's a reason they call them GYP sies. They start talking and directing you toward something you don't want to be purchasing and almost force you to buy it.

Heh, my last tenant was a commercial lighting contractor. He replaced a bunch of the lights in my condo with brand new fixtures for free without telling me, and left me a big stock of lightbulbs for the condo when he moved out.

I’m going back tomorrow. Talked to the concierge (another one). Limo company paying for ride there and back, plus airport drop off. And I’ll take my time solo walking around to try and shake the shitty feeling off. Decent chance I end up in jail.

    Or I could just Uber.

I got their invoice for $299 today and have them a call, saying
    1. I told them up front there was a non-working outlet and a light fixture that likely needed to be replaced
    2. The electrician was an hour late, didn't have a replacement light fixture (one of those pull cord utility things), and wouldn't go to the hardware store that's 10 blocks away to get one
    3. Electrician said it would be another $299 to get him to come back

I asked if all that aligned with their policy and the poor young lady that answers phones there said it does (objectively insane, right?). I told her that one of their master electricians who's now exclusively management (no more crawling around in attics in August, good for him) had rewired our whole house 10 years ago, did a great job, and I had a lot of respect for him, but I was never going to call them again. She kind of paused and said "I'm sorry to hear that, would you like me to pass on that feedback to the electrician?"

[Shrug] Not sure the electrician is the one who needs the feedback, but whatever.

So... If you know a good electrician in the PDX area, let me know. A buddy hooked me up with a sparky who takes on side gigs, but I haven't been able to get in touch with him .
