It has, but there are also things I miss. It is the #1 place to see what your friends and family are up to and I generally enjoy that content.

The fact that it has now been three months and I still haven't been successful in getting my account unlocked is certainly a strong case for telling Meta to just fuck right off, though.

I'll offer a different perspective on that, with total respect to you and your situation; I've been more inclined to check in with long distance family since getting rid of FB several years ago because I don't "fake" know whats going on with them from a POV that's been curated for social media. As in, I call them more and listen better because I'm truly catching up.

And when I see my friends that I only see occasionally, my question of what have you been up to is genuine. Again, no judgement from me, everyone knows what is best for them.

I mean, other than the fact that I think its the downfall of society and all, no righteous indignation here. Don't mind me if I start posting too much in the coming days, I've been supine on the couch high on hydrocodone for >24 hours and not sure where it ends. Apologies in advance.

wtf. I do FB a few times a month to stay in touch with distant family and friends.

But now I get AI babes that can’t type English. Hey AI. It’s not that hard to use proper grammar. If you generate hot fake chicks why can’t you generate proper English

That and reels. wtf. I don’t want Instagram. I want content from irl people I know. They fucked with a platform that was close irl social. Now it’s useless.

Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason

I'm the exact opposite. I have no interest in hearing inane social media ramblings from people I know.

I don't use FB at all. I follow assorted pro skiers, bikers, etc. on instagram. My feed is 90% clips of pros doing rad shit. It's like a mini ski / bike / snowmobile / dirtbike movie everytime I open the app, with zero local / family drama. I'm good with that. If I want to get local drama, I'll go drink beers with friends. I don't need an app for that.

Our society, guns aren’t evil it’s the people that worship them and use them to harm others that are evil. People breed and want offspring it’s a biological imperative not evil. Short term profits are sought by selfish people like the ones that brought you smart phones and social media.

Smart phones and social media are brilliant distractions for the masses. You can spread misinformation, fulfill your basest narcissistic desires and foster the insecurities that we suffer. You don’t even have to interact with the people around you, you just find an influencer that will supply confirmation bias. Etc, etc…

Has anyone else noticed over the last couple years people saying they are "salty" about something, I guess meaning they're mad? Where the hell did this come from?

Growing up in coastal New England salty meant a little crude and rough around the edges. What does it mean on Facebook? Who fucking cares.

Same - with the additions of other people's dogs & cats doing cool, cute, or silly stuff, and food trucks (for their "we'll be here when" and "we'll have this special")

    Otherwise, I'm in this camp:

I haven't seen it used on Facebook, but on some other forums people use it to mean, more or less, "mildly ticked off." I think it's sort of implying you are mad about something relatively minor, i.e. like a lot of the stuff in this thread.

The best synonym I can think of is pissy. Salty is an outwardly gruff demeanor or energy. Like getting up on the wrong side of the bed. Some people are just fuckin salty.

Not a new word. As mentioned, New England vernacular fa shaw.

    Grumpy would be another synonym.

Oddly, i first heard the term used often amongst my Hawaiian roommates in college, and then when i had roommates from Maine after college they were surprised it was a natural part of my vernacular.

In the part of the Midwest I'm from, "salty" would be similar to "ornery."

All of those -- ornery, gruff, grumpy -- are how I have heard it used. Fairly common usage to me, weird how it may not be for others.

    And this.

I use it both ways. Karen was a lot bit salty and asked to see the manager when the salty old sea dog behind her in line told her to stfu, get off her phone, and just fucking order her double crappuccino with soy foam already.

Yeah, growing up on the west coast I heard it too. Usually as a combination of foul language as in talks like a sailor i.e. fishermen/tug boat skipper, and foul mood as in "the great white got my hand."

I know the definition of it being "like an old salt [i.e. sailor] would say," but now I'm seeing the ornery usage a lot and had never seen it prior to a couple years ago.

You guys watch. It's going to be the Baader-Meinhof effect and you'll start seeing it all over.

I'm late to the facebook talk but I've pretty much given up on it. Like, I'd use it if it actually showed my friends content, but my feed is 90% shit that I have no interest in from accounts I don't follow.

    Shit that annoys you

I’ve been hearing salty in the ornery type usage for at least a decade in the Bay Area. Mostly on sport talk radio but it’s definitely not an unusual usage here now
