I saw someone point out that it seems like all these "let's go Brandon!" types who constantly bitch and moan about the current price of gas and everything else somehow seem to have the money to buy enough fireworks to light them off more or less continuously for three days.

I kind of enjoy making things go boom, but not more than I dislike paying for them or cleaning up after them. Add that it terrifies one of my dogs who has to be crated during the worst of this time of year and I’ll probably never set off another firework again, even after she’s old and gone.
Watching somebody else set off little fireworks does absolutely nothing for me.
My ex invited me and my fiancé over for their fireworks extravaganza next weekend, with her sister and other extended family. Don’t wanna go. It sounds absolutely terrible, actually.focus.

July 5th.
Every park I passed on my morning bike commute was completely trashed. Fireworks packaging everywhere… but also containers from catered food / park BBQs. What kind of fucking animal has a family BBQ at the park and thinks it’s acceptable to just leave all their styrofoam takeout containers and foil trays behind.

Yeah, the price of gas has the Brandon crowd here acting out in bizarrely irrational ways like going off on people with electric cars (because it's somehow their fault???) yet gladly making the round trip to the rez in their brodozers to drop hundreds on boom sticks that could never measure up to the free/taxpayer funded show on the waterfront.
I too used to like playing with explosives. Pretty sure I've told the 'motorcycle fork as cannon turned pipe bomb' story on here, but as an actual adult who respects the social contract - and dog owner - I fucking hate fireworks. And if I'm being honest, they're kinda boring.

Electra fire at 3000 acres and 0%. Likely caused by fireworks or a BBQ.

Sadly this seems to be a universal phenomenon. I go to Kernville in the Southern Sierras to MTB on a lot of long weekends. Campgrounds and dispersed sites along the Kern River get overrun with long weekend crowds every summer long weekend. The amount of trash they leave is outrageous. Broken chairs, EZup's, BBQs, tables, dirty diapers, and mountains of cans/bottles and general garbage. A lot of trash ends up in the river. A friend who stayed at a campground there one year compared it to refugee camps he'd been to in Africa. Fucking disgusting.

At 11:02 p.m. on July 4, 2022, Walla Walla Fire Stations 1 and 2 were dispatched to 2002 Glenn Erin Drive for a possible residential structure fire. Calls coming into dispatch reported the rear of the garage and a car were on fire and that the fire was spreading to the side of the house. Walla Walla County Fire District 4 and College Place Fire department was dispatched to assist as part of a mutual-aid agreement.
As firefighters arrived on the scene, they found a single-story residence with an attached garage on fire. In addition, two vehicles next to the garage were on fire. Fire crews immediately went to work trying to prevent the fire from spreading further into the residence. However, some fire had made its way into the attic over the kitchen and living room. The fire was called under control at 11:15 p.m., but crews remained on scene until 12:09 a.m. to ensure complete fire extinguishment and perform general clean-up.
The cause of the fire was fireworks. It is presumed that the sparks from aerial fireworks being discharged in the area landed on combustibles stored between the garage and the vehicle, which caused the ignition.
Damage to the property and contents is estimated at $150,000. The owner of the property is Elbert and Jacqueline Wilke.“When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something. To do something." Rep. John Lewis

Freedom right?
Who cares if thousands of acres burn and trash ends up everywhere, people lose fingers and eyes while breathing shite, vets with PTSD cower in their basement, and pets shit themselves in fear for hour and disappear. We've always done it that way and we'll continue to do it that way.
Better enshrine that shit in the constitution, or ask scotus to legislate it into existence."Your wife being mad is temporary, but pow turns do not get unmade" - mallwalker the wise

I decided to see what was under the bandage. The doc at the urgent care managed to glue the woven bandage she was using to clean up blood & just cut bait & wrapped it in there. It felt stable so I figured I’d redo the bandage.
Cleaned up [still gonna wait on getting it wet or trying to clean off the dried blood bits]

I did something like that to my left thumb with a meat slicer when I was 17. It bled like a motherfucker. It was a partial fillet and I miraculously didn't hit the bone. Kept the tip. There's nerve damage. The best parts were freaking a whole bunch of people out and getting sympathy from the hot Australian nurse's assistant. Unfortunately teenage me didn't have enough game to seal the deal. I gave it an epic try though.

Shit that annoys you
My dad gifted me his old riding lawnmower when I moved into my new house. We have 8 acres, maybe 1/3 of it lawn. One of those articulated husqvarnas. Real nice, except the blades had shear pins that broke anytime you sniffed a rock or stick or heavy weed. One shear pin would break and that blade would spin around and break the other two. The shear pins cost $6 EACH. So every time you hit a stick it cost you $20. Fuck that.
Finally I had enough. So a month ago I buy a new zero turn from Lowe’s. They didn’t have the one I wanted in stock, but it was on a truck that would arrive on Tuesday. Tuesday became Thursday became Saturday became Wednesday became Friday became Tuesday became…. Anyways. Today it showed up. Day of days. Wonder of wonders.
Fucking thing arrived broken. The control handle that drives the right drive wheel is broken off the shaft. If I had to guess, I’d say the handle got hung up when it was in transit with the park brake on. It’s still sitting on the pallet where they unloaded it on my driveway.
Gonna fuckin lose it.
focus.
