That could be, but then why fake it? I'd rather have no hudge chrome "exhaust" tip than something that's 100% fake.

Back in the day, I remember when some kids at school with their V6 Camaros and Mustangs would tack on a matching tip to make it appear like they had dual exhaust. The dead give away was always seeing the exhaust on a cold morning only coming out of one side. Or only one side was dirty.

We used to make fun of them. Now even the higher end car manufacturers have copied them. It's going to look REALLY weird on a cold day when an Audi has exhaust billowing out from below the car and nothing's coming out of the tailpipes. We USED to call that an exhaust leak. Now it's intentional? Wow... It's like Mercedes/Audi/Ford took their design advice from a broke 16-year old Joe Dirt or something.

Not quite as egregious but also very annoying is the massive fake plastic vents that pretty much EVERYBODY'S doing these days. The new Civic Type R's probably one of the worst. That and the giganto grill phase the industry's also going through. Toyota designers be like "How big should we make the grill, boss?" Design chief: "Yes. Just make it all grill."

Fake tits, fake news, and now fake exhausts?

I'm becoming a real skeptic of everything.

Yeah, faking them is all about style, and the car makers desire for money. Its all tied into sex. Im sure their research shows that men are more likely to buy a car with large visible holes in the back bumper.

Been car shopping. Unless it's an EV or hybrid, wife and I are hellbent on getting a car with 3 pedals for our next econo car. So I select the "manual transmission only" option in FB Marketplace, CL, Autotrader, etc. It's like 99 out of 100 of them are freaking automatics when you actually take a look at the pictures. Starting to piss me off and making the hunt that much more annoying. Even more irritating is when you call the listing salesman out on it and they say "Well, you can shift manually with the paddle shifters." Goddamit, no. 2 pedals and a CVT = NOT A MANUAL you dimwits. <--happened to me yesterday in person at a Honda dealership I stopped by to take a look at a couple cars they had listed but didn't show pics of the shifter online. Both had slushboxes. Grrrrrrr......

Another reason for no exhaust tips is that direct injection engines spit out a lot of soot/particles that turn them black and look like shit.

    Still dumb.

When my 2008 Forester started shitting the bed earlier this year I went looking for a newer replacement with a manual tranny. There was exactly 1 in all of UT, a 2016, and the dealer kindly informed me that it was the last year Subaru offered manual transmissions on models other than Imprezas. Makes me sad.

Bought a Taco last year, wanted a manual double cab long bed. Per the dealer, it's "not a thing". Good thing my wide drives that fucking cow of a vehicle, I can't stand it. You can shift all right until the truck decides it knows better and takes over.

All you old farts that can't deal with those new-fangled automatic transmissions . . . I bet you still have ice boxes instead of of refrigerators. I drove a manual for 30 years. Now I have a suby with CVT. It's better. And it's annoying to take off when the light turns green behind someone in a manual, not to mention on a hill.

How so? Most manuals that weren't made in the 1800s have some sort of hill-start assist and don't roll back...

I've driven across the country seven times. I've never driven in some of the southeast states, but have hit most of the other shitshow areas. So in my not an expert opinion, the worst asshole drivers are in the Boston and Chicago surrounding areas. That is all.

I drove through Vt a couple years ago - is there like a state law requiring all vehicles to have have multiple bumper stickers?

You know what's fun? Driving on the Autoroutes in Europe. Everyone pretty much stays in the rightmost lane unless they are passing. It's really something.
