Actually, no. Inbounds he would be considered a runner, not a QB on that play, so he wouldn't have the same protections. That tackle would have been legal a step earlier.

the hit was late, but it wasn't dirty. You see that kind of thing all of the time, where someone leaves their feet right as someone steps out of bounds. It was the botched assessment that was the worst part. That's not an error in judgement, or not quite seeing it, that's the entire officiating crew not knowing the rules. That's bullshit, honestly.

^^ That's a cop out from the league not wanting to admit that the refs blew it. Like I said earlier, the Staley call, the Matthews call, those are judgement calls happening in real time. You expect some of those to get mixed up along the way. The total botching of reading and understanding the rules is what's aggravating.

I'm not saying that is the reason the Packers lost. Obviously there were tons of plays and opportunities either way the rest of the game, but after what happened in Seattle last year, we're all pretty sensitive to shit like this.
