    So Close!

The international swimming federation (FINA) just released the 2012 masters world rankings and I'm ranked second for 40-44 year old men in the long course 1500 meter freestyle!

    [40-44]1500m Freestyle Men Long Course
    Rank Full Name Country Time
    1 HASSON Jascha FRA 17:44.69
    2 NELSON Kirk USA 17:47.67
    3 MORENO Victor ESP 17:54.12
    4 CASANOVA Lionel FRA 18:00.20
    5 DIXON Peter GBR 18:19.22
    6 RODRIGUEZ Ramses USA 18:22.63
    7 INGARDIA Michael USA 18:25.32
    8 ERIKSSON Tomas SWE 18:30.05
    9 PRESAS David ESP 18:34.84
    10 BERTRAM Uwe GER 18:40.75

A mere three seconds away from first in the world! Sorry for the "look at me" post, but this is the highest ranking I've ever achieved and I'm pretty excited.

    Seriously impressive. Nice work.

Serious question ... do they conduct doping tests on masters swimmers? In the road bike racing world, this is starting to happen even at lower level events.

No, they do not. some people think they should, but not sure where the money would come from. If they did it would probably just be at major championship events and I'm not sure how much good that would do.

I will move up in 2015. Not sure about the #1 guy. I'm more worried about younger guys moving up. Right now I'm in a bit of a sweet spot. There are some fast guys a few years my senior, and of course fast guys who are younger. But this thing really does vary from year to year. Especially in an event like the 1500 people just aren't in shape or just don't don't get the opportunity to swim it sometimes. Also there aren't really a ton of masters long course meets. It really gets down to who swims it that year. There are guys out there who could clean my clock, no question.

    Like a boss
People should learn endurance; they should learn to endure the discomforts of heat and cold, hunger and thirst; they should learn to be patient when receiving abuse and scorn; for it is the practice of endurance that quenches the fire of worldly passions which is burning up their bodies.
