Great time at Sibolas had by all. Including the mozzies. Great to be back at such a sweet area after so long. Snow conditions were superb and the weather forecast erred to our advantage.
But, flashing back to the ski day with Brad at Wesach I'd like to share some photos of a great day first. Back at the end of June so not current but whatev.
I love looking back here and knowing: 1, I'm back and 2, going to be a ski day.
Up's the way
At the top. The 7 sisters dominate the skyline and the black sister is uhm, black.
Another view offers Howsen Peak and Atna, the other 9000 footers in the region.
BC Ski Junkie in his natural element. So great to rip a day with Zrip.
I believe the big peak in the back is Maroon. Mtn bike trail from the top I hear.
And so ends another great Wesach day with a good ski buddy!

Lucky enough, a few days after my Wesach day I got to ski Sibolas with the usual suspects. But shit damn, it'd been a while since I skied here with these folks. Thinking 10 to 15 years. Great to share this with Vivian, and introduce her properly to L man and Jim, Keith and Heather.
Vivian on first bowl, first turns in the Sweeney area. Last time I took a girl here, she (a boarder) froze midway down the slope. My (perhaps 12 year old) son, ripped to the bottom of the slope, out of sight because it rolls over steeply (the reason, of course, boarder girl stopped and froze in the first place). So dilemma and high drama occurs where I have to leave her crying and perched on a 35 degree firm slope (where, for sure she would have slipped to the bottom of if not on her snowboard edge....), and go ensure my kid was ok... Needless to say, no one died and the girl and I are not together anymore.
This trip was way more fun.
Boarder Dave and Sally. Good doggie! You too though Dave, you're a good boy too.
V dropping main bowl
Jim dropping main bowl. Dude has a 25year turns all year streak going. Fucking phenomenal. I member when we were tied at 4 years. Damn he's kicked my ass!. Ha, yeah Jimmie - couldn't have my ass kicked by a nicer guy!
L man dropping main bowl. Met him here 24 years ago by my slightly addled reckoning.
Vivian on the 2nd last pitch. Last pitch was the waterfall and it was superb, with a downclimb into it. Whole team slayed it
Groupie taken by random dude .... ha cool.“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

I've seen American plates parked at a local trail head and a forest service camp site in the last 2 days which is odd since the Canadian border is closed to Americans at this time.
Here's a link to the Government of Canada page concerning Americans visiting Canada.
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration...xemptions.html
And in case you don't feel like sifting through the whole thing, the gist of it is that Americans are not permitted to be in our neck of the woods beyond transiting through to and from Alaska. And that means no stopping to recreate.

Well my northern brethren, I've lived far more north than Smithers and Terrace, but I've only ever driven through your neighborhoods moving back and forth from the Yukon, this will be changing next week. I'm going to be loading the car and biking, hiking, camping and fishing in the your areas starting Tuesday next week. I'll be solo so if anyone wants to tour me around, go for a hike or show a mag some local bike trails I'll return the favour with beers, things to smoke or my special batch of homemade hallucinogens.

I am crazy busy in my life right now but let me know via these pages when you are in Smithers and I can either join you for an outing or at the very least hook you up with some adventurous folks.
And on another note, this years volunteer cutting program at Hudson Bay Mountain has begun. The emphasis this year is more on brushing than cutting new runs. Having said that, the firefighters are working on a new run between Dahlies and Cold Smoke. Sure hope they fully process the trees they fall (limbing, bucking and chucking everything).
We started giving Chapman's Challenge a much needed hair cut today. Very satisfying!

^^^ beauty thanks.
Great stuff around here so far, the bike/camp scene at Kager is impressive and worth the trip north on its own. So looking forward to exploring more.

I met Paul on his 3rd day here motoring up chapmans pre-season at a high rate of speed, buddy was a go-er
he didnt post here but he told me he read Lee Lau blogs about the narth and decided to come for a job
as well as skiing/ climbing/ biking he took up WW paddling, didn't wash out, he was pretty good , he always had a 6-pak and would always offer you a beer
so today some of the bro's surfed tatlow told jokes, drank a toast and remembered the good times
somehow its always fitting in the rainLast edited by XXX-er; 08-14-2020 at 09:34 PM.

Northern BC 2013/2014 Stoke, Conditions
I skied with Paul fair bit when he first moved up. Including a couple cat ski trips and a number of night Missions. Even though he was a challenge to keep up with - I always enjoyed hanging with him. Not enough lately though - he was a busy guy.
Unfortunately My crew at the fd was first up this week. It has been very hard. I was going to post something earlier but couldn’t really find words. AP nailed it though. - my thoughts are with his family especially his 2y/o. God’s speed Paul.

Paul did not post here but he was a lurker for sure. I recall Hutz posting a pic of Grad Rock a few years back during that mega winger we had and me responding that I had plans to ski it at lunch on Friday. Lo' and behold I get a text message at 11 or so on Friday from Paul asking me if I had any interesting ski plans on the go and there he was, geared up in the Bluff parking lot a scant 45 minutes later.
I can not express how devastated I am by his passing.
Please take care of yourself Hutz.

One of the things I kinda liked about him was I don’t think he posted anything anywhere did he? Just went out and did it.
You take care of yourself as well AP.
I am on a leave of absence from the fd. This one hit hard and they are lining up some professional assistance. Been at this for almost 30 years - but this one.
If you need a chat in real time you have my number- always available. Anytime. Anyplace.
