TR: Touring & Some Steeps Around Tahoe

Skiers: Pat, Alexis, Schralph Macchio, MapleLeafGilles, Jakob & UCL

Photos: UCL (although Schralph will have some other photos from one of the days below as well)

Synopsis: While we have received very little snow since early January, I have actually be having a great time in Tahoe recently out in the mountains. The days are getting longer, with great weather, great views and good friends. Below is a collection of photos from a number of days out in the Tahoe Basin BC (as well as some Big Basin shots thrown in). Intermixed with all of this has been a number of days at the resorts just ripping groomers with Ms. UCL, which has actually be a lot of fun.

Despite the lack of snow, cold temperatures have kept the snowpack up high in good shape.

Long, sunny blue bird days offer for great skinning opportunities.

Up high, the coverage is more than adequate.

    The turns are good too!

With views like this, how can you not have a good time? UCL enjoying the snow.

If you look in the correct places, there is good stuff to be had.

A small storm in wind protected zones goes a long way if you ask me.

Throw in some Big Basin side trips with the Misses for good measure. Did I mention yet that California is amazing.

Back to the mountains for some steeper objectives.

Schralph Macchio thinks Tahoe has been great.

    As does UCL.

I have been digging using my new Panorama program.

Although Jakob is visiting us from the Alps, he couldn’t help enjoy himself in Tahoe.

A beta shot for those that are interested in how this is looking:

    MapleLeafGilles gets steep.

Yeah buddy – good times for MLG:

Jakob putting it together Bavarian Alps style with the awesome Euro-inspired jump turns.

As a great photographer, Schralph just knows where to go for the good shot…. “To the Sun I says… To the Sun!”

Further below we encounter a mix of awesome pow, breakable crust and hard snow… just depends on the intricacies of your particular line. Schralph doesn’t care one way or another on the split – he just goes.

MLG finds some good stuff down below as well.

Couloirs are fun when the conditions are stable.

    Schralph finding good snow.

And Jakob does too… ah, the joys of touring!

^ As much as I'd like to model for photos of "Plinko down the Cross Couloir" ...

I do kind of want to stay un-injured before my Svalbard expedition in May ...

(edit: and, I had MapleLeafGillies on my Prax skis on Sunday anyways ...)

Nice TR. Those side on shots are super cool. They really let you know how steep those lines are.
