What king of spider is this? I thought it was a false Scorpion but its probably not. Anybody know what kind of spider this is?

Can't tell from the shitty picture (and looking at it on an iPhone) but I suspect it is a wolf spider. Really cool spider, and can jump like a mofo. Very predatory.

It's a huntsman spider. They can be found all over the world in warmer climates, but that picture was taken in Queensland, Australia in July of 2011.

really? Huntsman normally look more brown, shitty pic I guess.
They get big (outstretched hand size) but are harmless, most houses in Qld are full of them.

haha. My g/f has no problem with bugs etc (grew up on a farm). But when we went to Qld I had take a couple huntsman outside because she felt nauseous after seeing them.

When the cousin was deployed to the Stan they had things they called camel spiders, nasty looking buggers, supposedly harmless. I had a picture but it got wiped out a while back.

^^^ Camel spiders are another name for wind scorpions, sun spiders, or solifugae. I've been doing arachnid research all afternoon. Interesting shit.

My girlfriend is an Aussie, we were down there visiting her son up near Falls Creek a few years back and staying in a dorm type room. There was a big ol frisbee sized Hunstman on the window when we came back to the room after dinner. I wasn't gonna get any sleep with that thing in the room though she wasn't too bothered. I took a slipper (only thing I could figure that would hurt the beast without breaking the window) and sqaushed that sucker, then grabbed it with a t-shirt & took it outside.
When we told the locals the next AM, they were horrified, said I shoulda just taken a glass and scooped it up. I still laugh, no way that thing woulda fit in any glass I've ever seen.

I was traveling through Croatia a couple of years ago and ended up having a few (and by a few, I mean lots) of beers with two guys that were on leave from the US Airforce. They were stationed in Italy at the time, but had just got back from Afganistan. They told us that in the desert they would take those camel spiders and put them in a barrel with big scorpions and bet on which one would win.
