Some great musicianship all through this album. Charlie Musselwhite is a legend and Elvin Bishop too.

Now and then I think maybe I shouldn’t post as much old fuck music here as I do, then when something like this comes up, I’m over it.

That was great. I like the slowed down Magic Sam licks Bishop plays there near the end. Musselwhite and Magic Sam toured together and were friends.

I'm a blues fan and a Musselwhite fan. Most white blues musicians sound like white guys trying to play the blues. A lot of it's good, maybe great for fleeting moments, but mostly it just lacks style. Or the style feels contrived. And blues is so simple, that without style it's forgettable. But Charlie Musselwhite just sounds like Charlie Musselwhite. If you read up on his life story, where he lived, who his friends are, you get an idea why this is the case. His singing is not very good, but his harmonica playing is as distinctive as anyone not named Little Walter. Even Little Walter would have been impressed with the playing on this one:

Yeah I mean with harp, for me, it's all about tone. A monkey could learn a lick eventually but he'd never get tone. And Charlie's tone is righteous. Little Walter is number one for me, I've said that a number of times on here. After that, I dunno, but Charlie's in the running. And he has the licks too.

before covid, it was a monday night tradition to see these guys at the Plough and Stars in Cambridge and then Sinclair Lounge Harvard Square when the plough became too small to handle all the hooligans. it was like an industry night out, famous players sitting in and wicked trippy visuals on the big screen.

    miss this stuff

Any Phoebe Bridgers fans here? She just released a new version of "Kyoto" with Jackson Browne that is fantastic.

It appears to be exclusive to Spotify at the moment, which is a damn shame.

It has one of the better lyrical turns of phrase I've heard in the last few years, and one that rings particularly true given the context of the song.

"I don't forgive you/But please don't hold me to it"
