I have a weird story that may or may not be connected to them. One day, I think in 69, I found myself on foot, walking through their neighborhood and came upon a band set up outdoors on a driveway. They were either practicing or giving a free outdoor concert, depending on your point of view. They were quite good, professional quality. They played “Come Together”, which had just recently been released by the Beatles. I remember the bass was deep and loud, and all the instruments were clear and clean, no distortion. Quite a change from other local garage bands that I’d heard about that time.

The lead singer was female, but don’t remember if there was another girl in the group. A few years later when Heart made the big time, I started to wonder about that encounter. I figure it was either the Wilson sisters, or some other very talented musicians lived in the same neighborhood.

    I know, it’s pretty much a non-story, but it’s what I got.

London Calling gets all the praise, and yes, it’s fucking brilliant, but Sandinista is their best album, IMO. A triple LP was doomed from the start, back in the vinyl days; just too ambitious. Sad, it deserves more exposure.

It's sort of insane they released a 19-track double LP in late 1979 and turned around and released a 36-track triple LP just a year later. That's some serious productivity!
